The Pattaya Golf Society (IPGC) at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar, Soi Buakhao
The Pattaya Golf Society returned to Green Valley for the first time in a while to play their monthly medal competition on the course which was in good but soft condition. A later than normal start saw the group, divided into two flights at sixteen and under, nervously eyeing the skies as they became darker and by the tenth hole the heavy showers began. Greens became flooded and fairways sodden but the PGS manfully played on.
In the second flight Leigh Abbey and Jørn Eriksen shared third place with net 77 each whilst Larry Ang signed out this trip with a fine net 74. The flight winner was Ken Grimes with an impressive net 73. In the top flight Pete Sumner scored net 74 with the best gross figures of the day whilst Scot Ken Page opened his account this trip with an excellent net 71. The winner was compatriot Neil McIntosh, suitably named given the nature of the day, and his net 69 gave him his best return since joining IPGC.
There were birdie ‘2’s for Wichai Tananusorn, Peter Ditz and Pete Sumner, all on hole twelve, whilst the ball had been set rolling by Mr Len on the ninth. The Booby Bevy went to Peter Ditz for the longest drive of the day – Green Valley via Greenwood – and by the end of his round his shoes had disintegrated as well! There were different memories of the day for Neil McIntosh however as his golf came good on a stormy day at Green Valley.
Jones signs out in style
The Pattaya Golf Society ended a very wet November with a trip to Eastern Star on Friday, 30th, to play a stableford competition. The course was reasonably well presented but some fairways were still soft and damp and the greens remained slow but at least consistent.
The course has toughened up greatly over the last few years and it has now been nine visits since the group’s winner broke par. This day was no exception as Mr Len and Dave Edwards shared third place with 30 points, a couple behind the player most in form, Neil McIntosh. The winner with 35 points was Steve Jones, playing his final competition this trip and it was an appropriate way to sign off.
Neil McIntosh returned the only birdie ‘2’ of the day, on the third hole and the Booby Bevy went to M. Olivier Tahoun for his low score. He later put the record straight by admitting to every golfer’s dream. In April he had scored two holes in one, on the same day, in the same competition, at his home club in northern France. That certainly beats a Heineken!
