Jomtien Golf with the IPGC
Monday, March 28, Plutaluang – Stableford
There was rain forecast in the Sattahip area today and as we drove towards the clubhouse the fairway on the first hole on the East course looked saturated with many puddles throughout, so with a few chats with the groups we decide to play ‘pick clean and place’.
We were hoping for the East and South today but were moved to the North and West instead. There were six groups out with a normal equal cut of 9-17 and the best score of the day was returned in division 2 by Andy Oz and his winning 34 points. William Chang came in second one point behind and Harry Vincenzi beat Bill Kana to third spot on count back, both tied overall on 32 points.
Frank Kelly.
There were two 32’s recorded in division 1 and Chris Voller beat Don Head 17/14 on the count back to take top spot (Miss Nut was in tears). Paul Sturgeon won another count back to take third place, edging Bob Comartin after they both scored 29 points.
Near pins went to (Div 1) Paul Butler, Dave Horne, Terry Madsen and Jerry Sweetnam, and (Div 2) William Chang, Frank DiNenna, Don Head and Harry Vincenzi.
Terry Madsen and Chris Voller both birdied W8 and in division 2 Frank DiNenna did the same in the ‘2’’s competition today.
Wednesday, March 30, Greenwood – Stableford
We were playing the A and C nines today with the cut set at 2-15 in the top division.
Still improving his game each week, Magne Gunnarson recorded the best score of the day to win division 2 with 39 points. Paul Hartley was second one point behind Magne while William Chang took third with 34.
Chris Voller was victorious in division 1 with 37 points, and playing off two Paul Smith came in second with 35. Matri Bobphalgin took the third and final podium place after beating Dennis Scougall and Bob Comartin on count back, all returning 34 point scores.
Chris Voller.
Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Bob Comartin, Dennis Scougall, Paul Smith and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) Paul Hartley.
There were no ‘2’’s in either division today so rollovers to Pattana on Monday.
As we left the course and got onto the 331 the heavens opened and this was probably the worst journey we have ever experienced on the way home, it was torrential rain for one hour and 15 minutes and visibility for the whole journey was around 40 yards.
Friday, April 1, Eastern Star – Stableford
What a difference a week makes! The course condition here had improved favourably to everyone’s surprise, with manicured fairways with straight lines and the hard ground just after tees becoming lusher and all the greens in good and slick condition.
Marty Rock.
Our normal equal cut in the two divisions for today was set at 8-16 and 17+.
Playing off a 10 handicap, Marty Rock won division 1 with 39 points, three up on Chris Voller in second while Arthur Hancock took third on 35.
In division 2, a 13/12 count back on the last six holes gave victory to Irish boy Frank Kelly over the unlucky Tony Thorne after they both came in with 36 points each. In the frame again was Magne Gunnarson in third spot with 34.
Near pins went to (Div 1) Bob Comartin, Steve Godfrey, Arthur Hancock and Chris Voller, (Div 2) Darryl Blair and Walter Weber.
Chris Voller birdied the 17th and in division 2 Steve Harris the 6th to scoop the respective ‘2’s pools in each division.
