Weather wise it was a beautiful day for golf here at Green Valley on Sunday, but sadly the same could not be said for the course.  As an added dimension someone decided to put distance signs on all the par-threes.  A good idea but the problem was that all the measurements were wrong by at least ten yards, some showing the distance much longer than it actually was and some shorter.  An example was the sixteenth which gave a distance of 146 yards while it was measured by two lasers at fifteen yards less than shown.

Probably because the course is playing long at the moment we had only one golfer who managed to beat his handicap today, this being Jerry Sweetnam who won with thirty seven points and also had a ‘2’.  Stuart Brown was again steady and came second with thirty five points while Kevin O’Sullivan took third with thirty three.

Michael Healy was playing his last game for this trip and didn’t go home empty handed as he came fourth with thirty two points.  More important for Michael was the fact that he had been playing a series match against one of our locals and today he won and managed to get a half out of the series.

The ‘2’s were shared between Jerry Sweetnam and Joe McArdle with one each.

After a long absence we were back at Bangpra today with our friends from the PFGS to find the course in excellent condition, although the greens were much slower than usual due to all the recent rain.  We had the largest group out today that we have had in a long time so decided to do two flights.

Stephen Doyle was playing his first ever game with us and he started off very well by winning the A flight with thirty five points.  Andy Featherstone took second place with thirty two and we then had two players on thirty one, with Craig Hitchens winning the count back to take third place over Andre Van Dyk.

Thirty five points was also the winning score in the B flight and this was returned by John Carlin.  Ken Hole was his usual steady self and took second with thirty three points on count back over Glen Armitstead, who was also playing his first game with us.  Russell Gilroy got the fourth and last place with thirty points.

The big winner on the day was Jim Traynor as he had the only ‘2’.

Thursday, June 8, Burapha – Stableford

1st Jerry Sweetnam (10) 41pts

2nd Stuart Brown (12) 37pts

3rd Glen Armstrong (20) 36pts

4th Jon Batty (5) 36pts

5th Pat Carty (25) 34pts

6th Don Everett (22) 34pts

We had another reasonably large group today here at Burapha and played the A and B courses off the white tees.  Although it had looked very much like rain on the way out it stayed away and was a beautiful day for golf.  As usual the course was in immaculate condition, it is really a pleasure to play here and especially at this price.

Jerry Sweetnam is on a roll these days and won again today, this time by a four point margin as he scored an excellent forty one points.  Stuart Brown also played very well to come second and we then had two players on thirty six points with Glen Armstrong winning the count back over Jon Batty to come third.  Pat Carty won another count back to come fifth and Don Everett had to settle for the sixth and final podium spot.

The ‘2’s pot was shared by Stuart Brown, Andy Featherstone, Ron Cooper and Stephen Doyle.
