Thai racing ace Sandy Stuvik dominated the EuroFormula Open round 5 at the British Silverstone Circuit last weekend. With two victories in a row, Stuvik moves up to 188 points in the championship, against second placed contender Alex Palou from Spain with 168.
The victory was hard fought for Stuvik though, as the Italian RP Motorsport Team struggled for pace during Friday’s testing, but by Saturday morning Stuvik was again the man to beat in the rain. For the wet qualifying session the Thai driver held pole position until the very end, when Palou managed to go slightly faster and take the top starting position. In the first race however, Stuvik shot into the lead and pulled away from the following group almost immediately. He would take the checkered flag with an 8 second lead over Palou while Israel’s Yarin Stern finished in third.

For Sunday’s second race, which was run in dry conditions, Stuvik secured a solid pole position, over two tenths ahead of P2 sitter Yarin Stern. As the red lights went out, it was Stern who would make the best start and claimed the lead into the first corner. Stuvik gave chase immediately and mid way through the first lap he was able to overtake the Israeli driver, allowing Palou to get past as well. What followed was a long intense race between Stuvik and Palou, as they would be locked in an intense battle until the last lap. In the end, Thailand’s young driving hope scored his second win of the weekend, with Palou having to settle for second and Stern third.
Stuvik commented after the race: “I was very happy to take my second win for the weekend, with my rear tires fading fast towards the end of the race I knew Alex would be pushing me hard. I am delighted to take two victories with me from the legendary Silverstone Circuit. The next circuit Spa Francorchamps is definitely one of my favorite circuits, but so is Silverstone. I look forward to continuing the championship fight in Belgium.”
The championship now takes a summer break before moving on to Spa Francorchamps in Belgium for the 6th Round from 6-9 September.
Stuvik steers his RP Motorsport racecar to yet another victory in the 2014 EuroFormula Open season.
