PSC Golf from The Golf Club
Monday, March 21, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford
1st Jimmy Dundon (16) 39pts
2nd Peter Thomas (16) 38pts
T3rd Alan Rothwell (13) 37pts
T3rd Kenny Aihara (17) 37pts
Grumblings today over the pricing here as well as the condition of the course made the locker room chatter buzzin’. Certainly there are better value courses out there and management should take a good look at the competition and have a re-evaluation of the pricing structure. Even if they let us share carts, that would be a start.
Corey Cusatis chips to the green at Kabinburi.
Course condition is another matter, and that had better get that sorted out sooner rather than later. We have been playing here loyally for 9 years every Monday, so can we take that into consideration please?
OK, enough ranting, we had a lot of golf this week so let’s get on with it. There were no visiting sandbaggers on the podium today, only the local ones. I say that with all due respect, of course and if you can’t throw a little aggro at your mates, who can you then? Kenny and Alan have been going head to head lately and today they shared the 3rd place spot.
John McHugh.
Peter Thomas had a solid 38 for a higher rung on the ladder, but it was Jimmy Dundon who outclassed them all with a fine 39. OK, technically Jim is not a local, but gets out here nearly as much as he is out at sea, and has done so for many years. A regular with T.G.C. and Donovans, Jimmy is no stranger to Green Valley.
Tuesday, March 22, Pattana B & C (yellow tees) – Stableford
1st Dan Dietz (9) 37pts
T3rd Scott Witt (12) 36pts
T3rd Jimmy Dundon (16) 36pts
Pattana never fails to satisfy, this is a great 27 hole track in very good condition and benefits from having the finest (and largest) clubhouse around.
The tees were set up to the front for the most part today. With the wind blowing strong but not crazy-bad there was plenty of chances to get wet.
Our winner on Monday at Green Valley was here, and Jimmy Dundon was in the frame again to share box number three on the podium. Scott Witt was also there with Jim, and a 36 on your card was a good number. It has been nearly 3 years since we have seen Scott, but he promises it won’t be that long again.
Dr. Dan Dietz was our big winner today. When Dan isn’t drillin’ for cavities he is out here drivin’ for dough as our American dentist buddy is coming into form with his game.
Thursday & Friday, March 24-25, Kabinburi – Stableford
Nahm and his right hand gal Oy run this golf course, and they do a great job of it. More courses could take a lesson in dealing with their guests the way this team does and they go out of their way to help your group and keep you happy here.
We checked into our hotel right on time at 10:30 after a drive of just over 2 hours from Pattaya. The course is a further 25 minutes away so after a brief rest for a coffee and a bite, the lads packed up for the Kabinburi Sports Club for the 2-day Eclectic.
The first day saw Corey Cusatis shooting lights out with 40 points off his 21 handicap. I played with Corey and scored him and he made very few errors on the day. What saved his score were some great two-putt greens. This course is notorious for very large greens and three-putts are not uncommon. Corey managed to either get it close or sink some terrific 8-footers for a fantastic forty on the day.
The second day was all Dr. Dan Dietz. John McHugh had a strong 37 point round and helped by his drive to the green on the 13th crocodile hole par-4. Not good enough I am afraid as the good doctor held on for a 39 point round. Not easy after our first day in that blistering sunshine! Dan is already wheels up and on his way home, but thanks for joining us and hope to see you soon.
Our Eclectic Winner was a bit of a surprise, but that is what can happen with this format. Two good, solid days of play saw 73 year old Masao Ishikawa (who walked the course both days) take home the chips with a 48 point eclectic score. This is a man who knows how to ham & egg with himself! Really great scoring Ishi-san, we are happy to see you top the podium!
