PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, Dec. 22, Burapha – Stableford

The five groups playing A and B had the course to themselves and using the EGA slope & rating for the white tees, the low markers were just about a stroke better off, with the higher handicappers getting up to two shots back.

Svenn Lund had the day’s best score to win the top division with 38 points, from Dennis Pelly (36) in second.  Grant Airey took third on 35 from Murry Hart (33) in fourth.

Bobby Driggs.Bobby Driggs.

Leaving us today was John Kittlesen but not before he tucked a win under his belt, taking the second division with 35 points, two clear of a three-way count back needed to determine the other podium places, with Ivan Plunkett edging out Fidge Button and Pete Stonebridge, all with 33 points each.

We also say good bye to Peter Mansini who is off to Germany and look forward to seeing him in July but we are pleased to welcome back Fidge Button and Mark Burns, who is here on a fleeting visit.

There were no ‘2’s.

Wednesday, Dec. 24, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Whoever determined that the rating for B & C from the yellow tees is 70.5/119 must have been dreaming as Khao Kheow is surely, in many players’ minds, one of the toughest courses that we play in the Pattaya area and is firmly on the PSC’s list of courses whose rating & slope is under review.  We have temporarily adjusted the B & C course to 71.7/122, which we believe is more realistic for this tricky course.

It would not have made any difference to Bobby Driggs today whatever he played off … maybe it was Bobby who rated the course… what a fantastic score, 44 points to win by a mile from Peter Erikson (39), also a great score playing off 6, with Louis, the Outback’s new Manager, edging out Norm Cheetham on count back, both on 36.

Jack’s target for the 500 baht bonus voucher to spend at the bar on the day was 37, so he lost twice, having to shell out to both Bobby & Peter.

There were two ‘2’s from Alex Graham (B3) and Carl Luke (C3)

Outback observation: Weather – sunny periods with a swirling wind; Check in – quiet & quick; Tee time – on time; Fairways – fine, patchy in places; Rough – ok; Greens – fast and true; Bunkers – soft sand but ok; Value for money – excellent; Pace of play – four hours, course quiet; Drink stations open – all open; Restaurant – good

1st Bobby Driggs (15) 44pts

2nd Peter Erikson (06) 39pts

3rd Louis Doyon (16) 36pts

4th Norm Cheetham (15) 36pts

Friday, Dec. 26, Green Valley – Stableford

An excellent turnout for Boxing Day’s golf at Green Valley as 34 players made the start, some after a very heavy Christmas Day.  The weather was fine, more humid than of late but once again the course was beautifully presented.

Big Kev Hamilton returned the day’s best score, recording 39 points playing off 17 to win Div B from the very steady Kim Danboise, also on 39, with Sugar taking third on 35.

Geoff Stimpson (6) had his playing handicap clipped by one but that didn’t stop him winning Div A with 38 points, beating the now consistent Dennis Pelly playing off 9 on c/b, with Bob Finley (36pts) in third.

Waldo won Div C with 37 points, from Greg LeBlanc (35) and Jorn Finnerup (33), who beat David Davies on c/b.

There were five ‘2’s today from Norm Cheetham & Peter Nixon (5th), Jarod Braithwaite & Carl Luke (8th) and Norm Cheetham again on the 12th.

Once again we regret there was no course report filed today, back to normal next week.
