Great support sees a record amount raised for the St. Camillus Foundation
Saturday, 16 June – Emerald Golf Course, Banchang
For the annual Camel Summer Charity Classic the weather was fine for golf. 198 golfers played in support of this most worthy of causes, for the St. Camillus Foundation which run the Camillian Social Center – a relief center for HIV/AIDs affected people, just out of Banchang, in Rayong.
This summer’s tournament raised a record total of 800,170 baht, for the Camillians. The Camel Annual Charity Classic tournaments, since inception, have now raised over 7 million baht for the St Camillus Foundation.
Golfers from Banchang, Pattaya and Bangkok teed off from 06:30am through 1.15pm. A special thanks to all the registration folks (Vanessa, Bob, Bill, Jintana, Tong & the Camel ladies). Also, the organizers recognize the great support received and extend their warm gratitude to the management, staff and caddies from Emerald for turning the course and facilities out so very well.
The format was Texas Scramble and the tournament had strategically placed bracing Bloody Mary’s, magnificent Margarita’s and sizzling sausages around the course to keep golfers strength up and their concentration focused.
After the game and some welcome refreshments at the clubhouse, golfers and their families made their way, by 5:30pm, to The Camel Pub, Banchang’s largest and finest pub/ restaurant. There, The Camel had prepared a pig on the spit and a sumptuous buffet.
Prize giving and presentations to the successful golfers started at 7pm. Excellent hosting was done by MC, John Sing with able support from Rod & Vanessa. Many kind donations were made by some very generous folks and the organizers extend their thanks.
The tournament champions for the Camel Summer Classic, 2012 were the Duff Soby team of Duff Soby, Regis Vincent, Val Kienast & Niel Hay, with a net score of 53. The runners up were the CR Asia/ WVT Invitational team of Glenn Ebert, Lindsey Warlock, Steve H and Mike Moir with a net score of 54.3. Congratulations to 2012 Summer champions and runners up.
For the ten technical prizes this year, the winners were: Long Putt on hole 3; Dave McCardy, Near Pin on hole 5; Chris Walsh, Near Pin on hole 7; Lindsey Warlock, Near Pin in two on hole 8; Dennis Stetsen, Ladies Long Drive on hole 9; Kh Thanapol, Near pin in two on hole 12; Val Kienast, Near Pin on hole 13; Willy Low, Long Putt on Hole 14; Val Kienast, Near Pin on hole 15, Mark S and Mens Long Drive on Hole 18; James Joseph Ryan. Congratulations to the technical prize winners.
