The Pattaya Links Golf Society
Monday, August 14, Eastern Star – Stableford
1st Bob Watson (7) 36pts
2nd Maurice Roberts (12) 34pts
3rd Chris Barker (7) 28pts
The Watson and Roberts show keeps rolling on. Once again these two finished one/two and left the rest of the field to please themselves. Bob followed up his 36 point haul at St. Andrews and 38 at Mt. Shadow with another handicap equalling 36 points today.
Maurice Roberts had a big 40 points at St. Andrews, a course he doesn’t like much, and today only made 34, but it was enough to finish second and 6 points clear of newcomer Chris Barker who took third on count back.
For non-winners the best front-nine came from Phil Davies with 16 points and on the back-nine Tip Briney fared best with another 16.
Wednesday, August 16, Burapha – Stableford
1st Wayne Morrison (28) 42pts
2nd Phil Davies (12) 40pts
3rd John Anderson (29) 36pts
4th Kevin Rogers (12) 36pts
An even number of 16 golfers set out for the short journey to Burapha Golf Course under grey skies. We were assigned the C and D combination, which proved to be in very good condition.
Wayne Morrison has had more downs than ups in his golf game this trip, but now on the final few days he wakened with a bang. 42 points is a great effort around this course and he appeared to do it with ease.
It wasn’t a runaway win, however, as Phil Davies, himself kicking some bad form, came a close second with his best score in a while. Phil thought that with 40 points on the card it was in the bag, but he wasn’t reckoning on someone coming up with a 42.
Third place went to a count back, with John Anderson’s 36 points edging out Kevin Rogers by way of a better back-nine.
The best front-nine (non-winners) was registered by Nick Odnoral (19pts) and back nine by Maurice Roberts with 20.
Friday, August 18, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford
1st Bob Watson (7) 37pts
2nd Kevin Rogers (12) 36pts
3rd Tip Briney (21) 36pts
4th Maurice Roberts (12) 35pts
Once again Bob Watson, well and truly back in top form after a “golfer’s slump”, scored better than anyone else of the field of 17. His impressive sub-handicap 37 points put him atop the podium and into that very comfortable Green Jacket. I think his 7-handicap may well become a distant memory.
Kevin Rogers, a very consistent golfer put together a nice 36 points to take second spot by way of a count back over Tip Briney. Maurice Roberts was there again in fourth with 35 points.
The best non winner’s front-nine came from Mike Wilsher with 20 points and back nine by Peter McDonald (20pts).
We played Pattaya Country Club for the first time in maybe a year or more after receiving some good reports that the course had improved a lot. It certainly has improved, particularly the greens which ran very true.
