Lewiinski’s Golf Society
Sunday, Oct. 9, Green Valley – Monthly Medal
A Flight
1st Garry Blackburne (11) net 68
2nd Ed Wyckoff (13) net 69
3rd Jeff Clohessy (15) net 70
B Flight
1st Eddy Beilby (21) net 67
2nd Peter Henshaw (24) net 69
3rd Joe Guinan (20) net 71
Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Beilby, whom this column as cited as a nice guy several times previously, won B Flight but more importantly took home the monthly medal, which in this case was for October. His name will be added to the Lewiinski’s wall of shame and he will also be invited to the gold medal comp held after December’s medal.
Eddy’s fine net 67 was helped by the fact that five players played a stable ford event and so retired early. Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw followed Eddy up the podium steeps to receive the silver a shot in arrears. Two players went to a count back for third place in B Flight as Joe Guinan and Aidan Murray both tied on net 71; when the dust had settled it was Joe who got to fill the podium.
The spotlight in A Flight fell on one of the most pleasant people in the society, Garry Blackburne, who posted a rock solid net 68 to take the top spot. Garry was one stroke clear of Ed Wyckoff and a count back was required to separate Jeff Clohessy and big hitting Dave Boran, with Jeff’s back-nine being more favorably distributed than Dave’s.
Monday, Oct. 10, Pleasant Valley – Stableford
1st Hakozaki Takeshi (15) 37pts
2ndRobert Baird (30) 33pts
3rd Bob Fagan (23) 27pts
Sometimes one has to go to multiple count backs and other times the winner jumps right off the page. For the midweek tilt at Pleasant Valley the latter was the case. Hakozaki Takeshi was the only player to better his handicap with a sparkling 37 points and was four strokes clear of Robert Baird, who has been seen hanging around the pay window quite frequently of late. Bob Fagan was gob smacked to see any part of the podium with his 27 points.
Friday, Oct. 14, Pattana B & C – Stableford
1st Joe Guinan (22) 42pts
2nd Marcus Earp (27) 37pts
3rd Pat Reagan (14) 35pts
A very pleasant day was had at the Gussan designed Pattana Sports Club playing the B & C layouts. The course was in fine condition, the weather was excellent and surprisingly, with all the rain of late, carts were allowed on the fairways.
Not being satisfied with Sunday’s third place finish, Joe Guinan stole the show today as he put the pedal to the floor and shot a fine 42 points. Joe was five strokes clear of Marcus ‘the Sheriff’ Earp while Co. Dublin’s favorite son young Pat Regan closed the podium with a steady 35 points.
