Sunday, Feb. 28, Silky Oak – Stableford

A Flight

1st Christen Boysen (10) 38pts

2nd Pat Duane (10) 35pts

B Flight

1st Nick Shaw (18) 38pts

2nd Mogens Melander (24) 38pts

Sunday morning, and the wind was blowing a gale over Silky Oak to leave 20 golfers fearing the worst.  The 1st tee was back on the yellows again and the wind was straight into your face.  Why do we do it?

Most of our players managed to get over the water but those who did not used the ladies tee as a drop zone.  The course was its usual set-up with some of the greens a little bumpy, but all of them difficult to putt on.  The pace of play very good and we had only a short wait on the par 3s.

We welcomed another group from Ireland, Joe Browne, Matt & Pat Duane, Jim Byrne, Paul Gibson, Joe Lavelle & Liam Rafferty, and also Noel Larkin.

Today was a day for the regulars who play Silky Oak each week, except for Pat Duane who showed he can play anywhere.  B flight was won by Nick ‘Elvis’ Shaw, back from resting with a bad back & a bent corkscrew, with 38 points, just beating Mogens Melander on count back,

A flight honours went to Christen Boysen with 38 points, followed by Pat Duane with 35 in second.

There were five 2’s recorded today, by Nick Thomas, Jeff Acheson, Nick Shaw, Noel Larkin & Colin Davis.

Monday, Feb. 29, Khao Kheow – Medal

A Flight

1st Paul Smith (2) net 71

2nd Peter Kelly (13) net 73

3rd Thorsten Jodehl (11) net 74

B Flight

1st Y. Kobayashi (18) net 74

2nd Ian Pickles (16) net 75

3rd Alistar Gall (19) net 77

C Flight

1st New Satita (40) net 66

2nd Barry Oats (23) net 67

3rd Roland Bangerter (21) net 73

Thirty-eight players turned out for the medal at Khao Kheow today, mainly because they did not know it was the monthly medal.  This comp puts the fear of Christ into people and the scores rocket.

All 3 flights were playing from the yellow tees except the single lady and senior who went off the reds and as you will see, this showed up in the scores.

A flight was led by Paul Smith off his 2 handicap with a net 71 (73 gross) on a very difficult course.  2 shots back was Peter Kelly (on a bit of a good run lately) and one further back came Thorsten Jodehl with net 74.

B flight saw our new friend from Japan take the win in his last game before returning to the Land of the Rising Sun.  Y Kobayashi started off like a pro with pars coming all over the place but then on the back nine the pressure began to take its toll as he struggled over the line with a net 74, one ahead of Ian ‘san Miguel’ Pickles.  Taking third place was Alistar Gall who beat Joe Browne on count back, both with net 77s.

The C flight was dominated by the beautiful people, with New Satita having the best score of her young life with a net 66.  ‘Handsome man’ Barry Oats trailed in just one shot back with a net 67 and Roland Bangerter was a further 6 shots back in third place. Near pins were claimed by Bob Gilespie, May, Paul Smith & Brian Davidson while the long putt award went to Liam Rafferty.

Friday, March 4, Pleasant Valley – Stableford

A Flight

1st Mike Allidi (2) 36pts

2nd Peter Kelly (13) 35pts

3rd Patrick Kelly (0) 34pts

B Flight

1st Tore Eliassen (21) 44pts

2nd Torben Lindgaard (31) 41pts

3rd Gary Williams (21) 36pts

We had another good size group today after the bumper outing on Wednesday with 32 players giving us 2 flights and 3 places in each, A Flight, 0-19, off the blue tees and B Flight off the whites.  The weather good but very hot and this took its toll on everyone.

For the second week running only one player played to his handicap in A flight, that being Mike Allidi on this occasion who led the way with 36 points.  The Kelly family bagged the minor podium places with father Peter just edging his son Patrick by one point, the latter beating Horn Rainer on count back.

In B flight it was a different story with a couple of Vikings in full armour battling it out; Norway’s Tore Eliassen with 44 points just edging out Torben Lindgaard from Denmark with 41.  In third place and just arrived from Australia was Gary Williams with 36 points.

The near pins were claimed by Sven Hommell with 2, Mike Allidi & Herbert Muth and the long putts went to Mike Allidi and Richard Dobson.
