PSC Golf from Lewiinski’s Golf Society
Sunday, Sept. 6, Green Valley – Stableford
A Flight
1st JJ Harney (13) 35pts
2nd Ken Hole (17) 34pts
3rd Phil Davies (13) 34pts
B Flight
1st Jim Elphick (26) 36pts
2nd Peter Henshaw (25) 33pts
3rd Eddy Beilby (18) 32pts
A good sized crowed turned out to contest our Sunday bash at Green Valley. The course was in top condition but the continuing heat and humidity took its toll on the players as the scores might indicate.
Jim Elphick.
Mickey ‘nine holes’ Beresford and Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Beilby had a small wager on the best return. Teeing off on the 18th hole ‘the Eagle’ was two shots clear but his tee shot was a bit off line in the trees on the right as Mickey creamed his down the middle, then put his ball on the green some distance from the pin. Meanwhile Eddy had hit two more shots to the edge of the green but then disaster struck as he chunked his next two chips resulting in a no score. The heat was all on Mickey to get down in two; his first put came up about seven feet short but Mickey held his nerve and made the par. Bad luck Eddy!
There was some compensation for ‘the Eagle’ as his 32 points won him the B Flight bronze. Peter ‘no nick name’ Henshaw, always there or there abouts, picked up the flight silver a stroke clear of Eddy and Jimmy ‘two shots’ Elphick took top spot and the man of the match honours as he was the only player to play to his handicap
It was a very tight affair in A Flight with Ireland’s JJ Harney lifting the gold with a steady 35 points. Three players were a shot adrift as Ken Hole, Phil ‘the Welsh Wonder’ Davies and Simon Kendall did battle for the runner-up spot and when the divots had settled it was Ken who emerged with the silver and Phil with the bronze.
Guess who was one stroke off the podium? Correct, Mickey ‘nine holes Beresford. Eddy was grinning like a Cheshire cat.
Monday, Sept. 7, Greenwood – Stableford
1st Phil Davies (13) 39pts
2nd John Feehan (15) 36pts
3rd Rukkid Nantaporn (18) 27pts
Monday’s venue was Greenwood, the intriguing construct of Wolveridge and Thomson’s design with its deep fairway bunkers and heavy rough that makes this course very challenging.
Welshman Phil Davies showed his fine mettle as he posted a man of the match excellent 39 points. Co. Tipperary man John Feehan picked up the silver with a solid even par round and two players contested the bronze podium spot, Rukkid Nantaporn and Aussie star Kevin Rogers, with Rukkid emerging from the resultant count back with the bronze as Kevin was left at ground level and potless.
Friday, Sept. 11, Treasure Hill – Stableford
1st Ken Hole (17) 36pts
2nd Billy Briton (17) 33pts
3rd Kevin Rogers (13) 33pts
The Lewiinski’s gang traveled down the 331 Highway to take on the formidable Treasure Hill and found the course to be in its usual pristine condition, but as the scores would indicate the challenge was to be too much for most.
Ken Hole was the man of the match as he was the only player to play to his handicap. Ken was three clear of a trio of golfers, Billy Briton, Aussie star Kevin Rogers and Per-olov Lindmark, with Billy emerging from the pile up with the silver and Kevin the bronze, leaving poor Per-olov out in the cold.
