IPGC Pattaya Links Golf Society

On Tuesday, 7th February the newly reborn Pattaya Links Golf Society visited The Emerald to play a stableford competition in two flights divided at eighteen and under.  The course was in good condition but for some reason the course showed its teeth and scores, with one exception, were average at best.

In the top flight Dave Neilson and Ray Banks shared third place with 34 points, the latter’s score stuttering on the greens, which were a little slower than those played on recently.  The win was shared by Niall Caven and Dave Moriarty with 37 points.

In the second flight Keith Greaves made the podium for the first time in his PGS career with a third placed 35 points, one behind second placed golfer Larry Slattery, with 36 points.  The flight winner was Dave Lehane and the retired dentist never looked down in the mouth once as he savoured 42 delicious points.  Tut, tut Dave, it’s not done at The Emerald!

There were two birdie ‘2’s with Chris Smith managing the feat on the fifth and Bob Ford repeating the trick on the thirteenth.

It had been a memorable day at Emerald and one which posed all manner of problems for the golfers…but why?

Celtic conquerors

The Pattaya Links Golf Society visited Mountain Shadow on Thursday, 9th February, to play a stableford competition in two flights cut at eighteen and under.  The course was in fine condition and the warm welcome set everyone up for a fine golfing day.

From the start the Celtic golfers in the field – Irish and Welsh, and proud – showed they were up for it and the second flight was headed by John O’Sullivan with his best score in a long while, 38 points.  Second was the returning Ian Wilson, and he made an impact with his customary colourful clothing, as well as his 34 points.  In third place was Aussie Mike Firkin with a welcome 33 points.

In the top flight the Welsh duo of Steve Evans and Russell Goldsworthy shared second place with 37 points each and Irishman Karl Flood topped the field with 39 excellent points.  In addition Russell and Steve shared the ‘2’s pot with their efforts on the short fifth par three.

Back at the Links Masa Sugaya savoured the consolation beer and everyone enjoyed the company of the golfers, sharing tales of what might have been on a splendid day at Mountain Shadow.
