PSC Golf from The Golf Club
Monday, March 30, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford
1st John Emmerson (16) 45pts
2nd Billy Eyles (17) 42pts
3rd David Forster (14) 37pts
First off, I would like to thank Nat and Phoenix Golf for hosting the first annual appreciation day with all the local golf bars getting free green fees and carts. It was great to welcome back Phoenix to our golf schedule and you will be seeing us play here now on a regular basis. Also, our thanks go to Mark West and Bob Philp for the unenviable task of putting it all together and “herding the cats” on the day.
John Hutt, Kenny Aihara, Gary Emmett and Ken Grimes.
Secondly, it is the last chance to sign up for our Songkran trip to Khao Yai, departing on Tuesday the 14th of April and returning on Monday the 20th. We play 4 rounds up there and stay in Pak Chong so see our facebook page as listed at the bottom, or drop by TGC for more info.
Yes, you read the scorebox above correctly. As much as it pains me to report this, John Emmerson had one heck of a round of golf out there today and turned in a 45-pointer. It has been several years since we had that many Stableford points to win a comp, but as we know Johnny plays 3 times a week and turns in all his cards, he is definitely legitimate.
It’s funny how on those rare occasions the game all comes together, but when the putts are all finding the hole and the driver hits all the fairways, it is magic. Nice job Johnny!
Commiserations go to Billy Eyles who found himself the bridesmaid after a tremendous round of 42. What a shocker to not win after such a great round of golf. And we said “adios” to David Forster in third place who is on his way back home after a good month on the links of Pattaya. Nice way to finish mate!
Wednesday, April 1, Pattavia (white tees) – Stableford
1st Gary Emmett (17) 37pts
2nd Kenny Aihara (3) 36pts
T3rd John Hutt (10) 35pts
T3rd Ken Grimes (19) 35pts
T3rd Phil Smedley (23) 35pts
With 6 greens sanded and the rest at different speeds, we did not find Pattavia in its usual fine condition. I am afraid that many courses will be just like this over the next month as the scheduled coring and sanding must take place. As they say, it was the same conditions for everyone but there was only one man standing with a score better than his handicap at the end of this round.
Starting down the totem pole, it was a 3-way tie for third at 35 points. That is a good score here at Pattavia on any day, as the greens are tricky in any condition you find them. Kenny Aihara shot to his number today and took sole second place with the course giving him only 3 strokes.
Just when a guy is about to head back home he comes good and finds his form. We have seen this so many times and today was Gary Emmett’s turn to raise the trophy with a big red 37 at the top of his scorecard.
Friday, April 3, Phoenix (white tees) – Stableford
1st Dale Shier (15) 40pts
2nd Gary Blackburn (20) 39pts
T3rd Bob Mulholland (7) 32pts
T3rd John Mulrooney (12) 32pts
It is an easy 25 minute jaunt from The Golf Club to Phoenix, and what a nice change of pace to have a course so close to town.
Today we saw Mulrooney and Mulholland with a couple of 32’s wrap up third on the leaderboard. It seemed to be a 2-man race to the finish with Gary and Dale, but when Shier chipped in for birdie on the 18th it was all over. Dale had a very solid round here today shooting 20 on the front and 20 on the back. It must be that new turquoise Titleist bag!
