Coco Club on the outskirts of Pattaya hosted the first lawn bowling Ashes competition between England and Australia on Saturday, Sept. 3, based on a similar system to the Ryder Cup in golf.
After the morning session the teams were all square at 6-6 but the Aussies had a huge 22 bowls point advantage, based mainly on a 25-2 win by Peter over Bill.
After lunch, the English got going however and it was a different story with the last four singles all won by the English players by a score total of 58 to 35, giving them the inaugural title by an overall score of 10-6 and possession of the new annual Ashes trophy.
The weekend also saw the unveiling of a new fifth rink at Coco Club, designed with wheelchair access to allow disabled players to train with a view to qualifying for the Paralympics in Tokyo 2020.
