Jomtien golf with the IPGC
Monday, June 29, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
There were two groups out today with the equal cut of 8-20 in division 1 and 21+ in division 2. There were some tough pin placements out there and with very slick greens this was reflected in the scores.
Gordon Everingham returned the best score of the day, winning division 2 with 37 points while Willy van Heetvelde was second nine points behind, beating John Hughes 15/12 on the back nine. Terry Madsen topped division 1 with 34 points, one ahead of William Chang in second, and Paul Butler took third on 32.
Near pins went to (Div. 1) Paul Butler and Terry Madsen, and (Div. 2) Roar Berger, Gordon Everingham and Richard Kings (2).
Terry Madsen birdied the 15th to scoop the rollover ‘2’s pot in division 1 and Gordon Everingham got one on the 5th for the only ‘2’ in division 2.
Wednesday, July 1, Bangpra – Stableford
We found a totally deserted course upon arrival and the first of our six groups was able to tee off 25 minutes ahead of schedule. We had 2 divisions once and again with the cut made at 5-14 in the top flight and 17+ in division 2.
Playing off 14, Arthur Hancock won division 1 with 39 points while Chris Voller, now off 8, was second on 32 and Daniel third one point further behind.
An even par 36 points was enough to win division 2 for Gordon Everingham and William Chang came in second on 35, with John Hughes taking third on 32.
Near pins were claimed by (Div. 1) Brian Blair, Daniel, Arthur Hancock and Timo Pykonnen, and (Div. 2) Roar Berger, Darryl Blair, Jeff Greer and John Hughes.
Gordon Everingham birdied the 8th and John Hughes the 12th to record the only ‘2’s of the day and split the division 2 pot.
Friday, July 3, Eastern Star – Stableford
They have had a few showers here over the past week or so but despite the slightly greener outlook the fairways were still very firm today, although the greens have slightly improved.
Five to sixteen was the cut in the premier flight and Frank Kelly with 35 points topped the podium ahead of Bill Bertram in second, who beat Chris Voller on a 20/16 back-nine count back after they both returned scores of 33.
After racking up 13 points on the first four holes, the organiser came in with 36 points overall to win division 2 while Iain Walsh, playing off 17 and hoping to be in division 1, was second with 35 and Joe Kubon third on 33.
Near pins went to (Div. 1) Brian Blair (2), Jerry Sweetnam and Chris Voller, and (Div. 2) Glyn Evans (2) and Joe Kubon.
Despite seven near pins today in both divisions nobody could convert and there were no ‘2’s, sp a rollover to Eastern Star next Friday.
