Three buses and a car were needed to ferry the players signed up for today’s earlier than usual departure by fifteen minutes. We arrived at the course with plenty of time to have a coffee or beer as the case may be and the first group teed off from the white tees on time at 9.46am.
(L to R) Alex Field with Harry Wszola & Pierre Cere.
There was some concern of a slow round to contend with when the marshall sent the last group to tee off in front of us as a five-ball, and four of them were walking! After three or four holes they got a wriggle on and we finished our round under clear skies in good time.
The writer can’t actually recall how long it took but does recall counting the twelve cans of beer he consumed during his round and he also noted it was still daylight when they walked off the 18th green…hic!
The day’s event was split into two flights and Alex Field was again on fire as his 43 points was five clear of any other player on the day. Two players had 38 points (Mark Stapleton and Ian Marsterson), ‘Colonel’Alan Sanders had 37 whilst a number of players scored 36 and 35 points, however due to count back requirements only Don Richardson and the late arrivalist Roy Dayton got some chocolates!

It was an excited 32 golfers who set out for the long and tiresome journey to the popular Greenwood G.C. One can hardly wait for the roads to be fixed as it will take approx. 20 min. from the trip! Then we will all be queuing up to play.

We played C & A nines from the white tees and with hindsight being a wonderful thing we maybe should had gone from the yellow tees, shortening the game by about 400 yards. The sprinklers had given the fairways and approaches to the greens a good soaking. It was a very warm start to the day with the cool change coming through half way on the back 9.
Pierre Cere showed the way with a good score of 38 points, with Alex Field and Harry Wszola taking out B Flight and C Flights respectively with 36 points each.
Note: For some serious golf with a dash of fun, the Growling Swan welcomes golfers of all persuasions. We generally play on Mondays and Thursdays at any one of the fine courses around Pattaya. Please contact Peter Grey for bookings or any information on 0861 503086.
