PSC Golf from The Billabong Golf Bar

Wednesday, Dec. 10, Green Valley – Stableford

Green Valley, our usual venue for Wednesday golf was, as usual, in great condition but the greens were a little slower than normal and the sand in the bunkers was as soft as, with many a buried lie.

Welcomes went out to David and Cynthia Hutcheson, over from the Phillipines for a holiday and some golf, and also to Ian Smith from Coffs Harbour in Australia.

We had nine groups playing and were away a little early in beautiful weather.  It is nice to see so many ladies playing with us and they do seem to enjoy themselves.

The scores were good and we had a 6-way count back on 36 points for the minor places, with Jack Butler getting the nod for fifth and David Hutcheson, playing off a plus one handicap, taking fourth.  Third place went to Jim Bell with a fine 37 points while going two better was Sa with 39 points in second.  Top spot today was filled by Bob Finley with a great 40 points.  Well done mate!

There were three ‘2’s coming from J.J. Harney, John Player and the lovely Thip.

Friday, Dec. 12, Silky Oak – Stableford

We played millionaire’s golf today at Silky Oak, there wasn’t a sole on the course when we arrived and we only saw a couple more groups behind us.  The course was in great condition also.  We played in very windy conditions, which was not too good for the scribe as he lost 9 balls during his round, it’s been a long time since that has happened.  The scores reflected the strong wind also.

We had the boy from Karratha playing with us today, Rosco Langoulant, he grew up there and started his career as a golfer on sand greens and a very windy golf course.  He is now playing off a single figure handicap for the first time in his life, 9.2 to be precise.  Obviously single life is great for his game, he even managed to play with the same ball all day.

With four groups playing the prizes went down to third place, which Rosco won with 34 points.  Second went to Brian Maddox with 36 points, him being beaten on a count back by J.J. Harney also with 36 but with 18 on the back nine.

There were two ‘2’s today coming from Capt. Bob and Brian Maddox – must have been a lucky shot for the Captain!

Note: The Billabong is situated just off Siam Country Club Road looking straight down Lake Mabprachan.  Give Bob a call on 082 204 3411 if you are looking for a game.
