The Backyard Golf Society
A change of venue for the Backyard lads last Friday, July 24. With our regular Friday course at Emerald unavailable we made the switch to our old stomping ground at Eastern Star. We got a couple of early tee-times and were able to complete the round in about 3-1/4 hours.
Eastern Star is like many courses at the moment, praying for a lot of rain. Many of the fairways are in dire condition with bare patches all over. The rainy season is greatly missed at this time.
Winner today on count-back was Foos yer Doos – with Eastern Star just over the road from his abode he is very familiar with the nuances of the course, i.e. stay away from the water, which is on many holes. The near-pin will be rolled over to the next game with no one managing to hit and stay on the par 3 13th hole.
The big winner in the skins was The Quiet Man with 9, Diet Whiskey won 5 and there were singles to Foos and “He’s a Victorian” and the 18th is rolled over.
We can only pray for rain as it is badly needed on most of the local courses. Quite how Bangkok gets a drenching but Pattaya misses out is one of those meteorological mysteries.
