Mike Jeffreys.

It was a fine Sunday morning for the golfers at Links Bar who gathered for the short trip to the picturesque Burapha Golf Course.

On arrival we found the course very busy, with a large contingent of Korean golfers all wearing the same (we assumed) company shirts.  2 or 3 of our group did a few laps looking for our gear, but to no avail.

After quizzing a marshal, were told that there were not enough carts or caddies, but the early morning golfers would be coming in soon.  They did, and we loaded up and drove to the C1 where our first group was able to get away at the allocated 11.30 time slot, with a relatively clear course in front of them.

There were some good scores today on a testing, well groomed course.  By his own standards, Mike Jeffreys had a shocker at Greenwood the previous Friday, but a welcome form reversal had him top of the board today with a fine 38 points.

Second place went to Maurice Roberts on a count back, edging out Ray Banks as both finished with even par-36s.

Again there were no ‘2s’ so a carryover to the next game.

Friday, Jan. 20, Treasure Hill – Stableford

A Flight

1st Bob Watson (8) 37pts

2nd Maurice Roberts (12) 36pts

B Flight

1st John Hughes (23) 38pts

2nd John Anderson (31) 37pts

Treasure Hill is a beautifully presented golf course but not renowned for allowing players to achieve great scores.  Nevertheless, 17 Links golfers decided to try their luck and attempt to change the statistics.

The course was particularly busy today, not surprising with the much talked about and appreciated price of 1150 baht for green fee, cart and caddy.  As busy as it was, our first group was away on time and kept up a good pace for the round.

We had two flights with prizes for the top two in each.

The course allowed 4 players to better their handicap: Bob Watson with a generous (c/h 8) piled on 37 points (that’s 79 gross) to win the A Flight.  Maurice Roberts (c/h 12) is always near the top of the leader board, and today picked up second place with an even 36 points.

John Hughes (c/h23) had a steady round for 38 points to take out B Flight (a number of occasions moaning about the putt before it was half way to the hole, only to be thrilled when the ball actually went in).  John Anderson (c/h 31) with a surprise 37 points took out second spot in B Flight.

The past 2 games at Links had been devoid of ‘2s but not today as we had five of them.  Well done to those 4 golfers (Bob Watson had 2).
