IPGC golf from the Pattaya Golf Society

The Pattaya Golf Society made a relatively rare visit to Century Chonburi on Monday, 18th July, betting on the hope that the local Thai golfers would be “golfed out” after three consecutive Buddha holidays.  So it was!

The course was empty when the group teed off, early of course, and a pleasantly warm day provided the ideal ambience for the stableford competition.  The course was in good condition with only the bunkers giving cause for concern and the greens were slow by comparison with others in the area.  The excellent design calls for accuracy, not length and the winner, France’s Jean Morel, gave everyone a lesson in how to play the course as he took 38 points from the track, leaving Masanori Takano and Don Nellis to share second place with 36 points.

There were no birdie ‘2’s and local hero Wichai Tananusorn had a round to forget as he rejoined the group after a month in UK.  However Garry Hookey received the Booby Bevy for being the only golfer back at the presentation not to register at least thirty points on his card.

Some may mock Century Chonburi but on the day it was the perfect venue for the Pattaya Golf Society.

Masters in charge at Pattaya

The Pattaya Golf Society made the short journey to Pattaya County Club on Wednesday, 20th July to play a stableford competition on the local course.  It was reasonably prepared and the dry fairways provided the golfers with a lot of run even though they were starting to get bare in patches.  The greens were quick and it was refreshing to see that the club has adopted a policy of putting non-assigned caddies to work dressing the bunkers around the course.

The scene was therefore set for a good tight competition and that is what ensued.  Sharing third place were the Alan Duckett and Mr Len who finished with 36 points, only one behind Masa Takano who again carded the best gross score of the day, a fine 79.  The winner was Peter Masters whose diligence and patience are always tested these days and his 39 points was a good reward for his efforts.

Don Nellis recorded the only birdie ‘2’ of the day on the tasty sixteenth and the Booby Bevy went to Haruyuki Kato for blowing away his chances after a level par front nine off the sticks degenerated into a catalogue of errors on the back nine.

The group had enjoyed a stress free day, completing their rounds in less than four hours at Pattaya C.C. and the largest field for a few weeks helped the day go well.
