PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society

Friday, May 27, Pleasant Valley – Stableford

Another fine “low season” field of 27 golfers were signed up for this event and on a fine & sunny day we departed Parttaya a few minutes before our scheduled 8.30am departure time and arrived at the golf course just 42 minutes later. The course was not too busy so we were able to send our first group away 20 minutes ahead of schedule at 9.45am.

The course was in fine conditions with the greens well maintained and although we had a Thai four-ball directly ahead of us we managed to proceed at a fairly good pace.

Two-handicapper Mike Allidi “shot out of the blocks” by having birdies on the first 2 holes but encountered a setback on the third when he put his tee shot into the water, but still recovered well and managed a bogey 6.

Our first nine took just on 2 hours and most of the group were scoring quite well with 3 of us having 22, 21 & 19 points and as the good pace continued for the second nine a couple of us managed to hold it together and our round was completed in just over 4 hours.

There were nearest the pins on all par threes and longest first putts on the ninth & eighteenth greens. With the good field we had 2 flights – A Flight for handicaps of 0 to 17 playing from the blue tees and B Flight for handicaps 18 and over playing from the white tees with 3 places in each flight.

In the A Flight it was once again Alistair Gall who emerged as the winner with 38 points and a count back was required to determine second & third places with 2 golfers having 37 points. The result was that Bob Maluga (16 points on the last nine & 12 points on the last 6 holes) took second spot from Geoff Bracegirdle (16 points on the last nine & 11 points on the last 6 holes) who finished third.

It was a high scoring affair in B Flight with Nigel Harrison once more winning with 45 points from Nim Cheoychao in second place with 44 points and your writer Peter “Blacky” Blackburn took third place after scoring 41.

A Flight (0-17)
1st Alistair Gall (17) 38pts
