Wednesday, August 6, Burapha – Stableford

There was a large Singha competition being played here today on the A and B courses so obviously we were allocated the C and D nines.

We teed off 30 minutes ahead of schedule on a course that was in excellent condition and the weather conditions were also perfect.  This did not reflect in the scores however as Robert Garrick, playing off 17, was able to win division 1 with just 32 points ahead of Lindsay Phillips and Tony Bless on 31 points, with Lindsay taking the count back verdict 11/10 on the back six.

Jimmy Johnson’s 30 points was enough to win division 2, with Rod Howett in second two points behind and an unheard of 26 points coming in for third place for Alan Bissell.

Near pins went to Lindsay Phillips, Harry Vincenzi, Chris Voller, Paul Hartley and Rodney Howett.

Chris Voller birdied C8 for the only ‘2’ of the day.

Friday, August 8, Eastern Star – Stableford

This course is still improving each week and today there was a perfect cool breeze coming off the coast making it an enjoyable round for everybody.  There were seven groups out with the cut in the two divisions at 9-16 and 17+ and the best score returned came in division 1, with Bill Bertram winning with 38 points.  Back in form after a few months in the doldrums and now playing off 10, Mikael Andersson took second on 37 points and Karl Flood was third with a meager 36.

Thirty seven points was enough to win division 2 for Joe Kubon while Colin Aspinall came in second one point behind and Frank Kelly was third with 35.

There were some tough tee placements on the par threes today and a strong breeze which meant that only one person managed a near pin in division 1, that being Tony Bless on the 6th, while in division 2 Colin Aspinall, Gary Harrison and Bryan Rought (2) shared the pot.

Colin Aspinall birdied the 17th, Robert Garrick the 6th and Bryan Rought the 17th to share the second division ‘2’s pot while there was a rollover in the top flight.
