PSC Bunker Boys Golf Society
Monday, June 27, Khao Kheow (yellow tees) – Stableford
1st Tony Robbins (15) 40 points
2nd Andy Gray (27) 33
3rd Neil Carter (13) 31
Near Pins: Steve Durey, Andy Grey, Neil Carter (2).
Once again Tony Robbins showed his class by running away from the field of 14 players on this difficult layout and winning with 40 points, seven clear of Andy Grey in second. Tony also jumped over leaders Geoff Parker and Jimmy Carr in the race for golfer of the month, establishing a one point lead with one game to be played. Most players found the greens hard to read with the exception of Tony who could not miss a putt.
Wednesday, June 29, Crystal Bay C & B (white tees) – Medal
1st Peter Allen (29) Net 70
2nd Geoff Parker (14) 74
3rd Lee Butler (20) 78
Near Pins: Skinny Newton, Drew Niblock, Geoff Parker, Neil Carter.
Only 10 made it to Crystal Bay for one of our two monthly medal rounds. With so many of our regulars away it was good to welcome back Rab McDonald and a new member Drew Niblock, an 11 handicapper from Ireland who is on his first trip to Pattaya. I understand following a great day out with the Bunker Boys it will not be his last!
Medal always seems to deter a few but recently those who don’t like it have done very well. Welcome to the club Peter ‘I Hate Medal’ Allen who despite carding an 11 on one hole and an 8 on another had a great Net 70 to win first place with ease.
Being the end of the month it was the decider for the Golfer of the Month. Jimmy Carr and Geoff Parker had been leading all month but Tony Robbins with his 40 pts at Khao Kheow on Monday had sneaked into a one point lead over Jimmy, with Geoff a further point behind. At the end of the round with only 4 players to come in Geoff was the leader in the clubhouse with Tony second and still leading Golfer of the Month. Then in came Peter Allen, with his net 70 to push Geoff into second place, and Lee Butler and Rab McDonald who both equalled Tony’s net 78. However, they both had better count backs relegating Tony to fifth and making Geoff Golfer of the Month for June by one point over Tony. This gives Geoff his fifth Golfer of the Month in the last 18 months and Tony his third runner up place this year.
We enjoy coming to Crystal Bay and it is recovering well from the recent drought. However, today we were surprised to see that the grass around the green fringes (1st cut) was longer than the fairway grass. The issue with the Bunkers remain with the machine raking okay, but the edges where the machine does not reach are in a bad state.
Friday, July 1, Pattavia (white tees) – Stableford
1st Neil Carter (13) 37 points
2nd Jimmy Carr (15) 36
3rd Mike Johns (16) 34
Near Pins: Jimmy Carr, Neil Carter.
Twelve players turned out for one of our favorite courses on an overcast day with threatening rain to enjoy a lovely cool game with only one short interruption by the weather.
Neil Carter is back in his winning way beating Jimmy Carr by one point. Nice to see the return of Mike Johns who crept into third with 34 points. Only two of the near pins were won with no one on the long par threes where many golfers used their drivers.
Note: The Bunker Boys play out of The M Club located 100 meters up Soi 14 off of 3rd Road and no prior booking is required. New players can merely turn up by 9.30 a.m. on any Monday, Wednesday or Friday and enjoy a game with us.
