Monday, Jan. 15,
St. Andrews – Stableford

Division 1

1st Rocky Jones (5) 36pts

2nd Jacob Cummins (6) 34pts

3rd John Nicholls (9) 33pts

Division 2

1st Derek Thorogood (18) 39pts

2nd Richard Talbot (20) 33pts

3rd Gerard Dogge (16) 30pts

St. Andrews welcomed the golfers of the TRGG at the start of the week. With the difficulty of the course stretching the ability of all of the players there was never going to be an abundance of high scores.

In division 2, the winner by a comfortable margin was Derek Thorogood with a fine 39 points that left Derek’s swing coach, Alun Webber, purring in admiration.  Derek was well clear of Richard Talbot and Gerard Dogge in second and third respectively.

In division 1, Rocky Jones, not seen since consuming whisky from a snake filled bottle in Hua Hin, was able to put that horror show behind him to shoot his handicap and take the top prize.

Tuesday, Jan. 16,
Phoenix – Stableford

Division 1

1st Tristan Gilbert (12) 42pts

2nd Rocky Jones (05) 39pts

3rd Roger Wilkinson (16) 37pts

Division 2

1st Alun Webber (23) 39pts

2nd Seamus Farrell (28) 38pts

3rd Jeff Boylan (21) 36pts

Phoenix Gold was the venue for Tuesday’s golf and in division 2 Alun Webber and Seamus Farrell went toe to toe to take the top prize.  Eventually the result went to the eastern side of the Irish Sea as “the boyo” Webber scored 39 points to just knick it from Ireland’s very own Seamus by 1 point.

In division 1, Rocky Jones continued his good form from the day before to shoot 39 points but this day belonged to Tristan Gilbert and a magnificent 42 points saw the Canadian whip the rest of the field.

Wednesday, Jan. 17,
Greenwood – Stableford

1st Tristan Gilbert (12) 37pts

2nd Ryan Thomas (1) 39pts

3rd Ikeda Michitoshi (22) 36pts

Wednesday’s visit to Greenwood proved to be a continuation of the Tristan Gilbert week.  With the course in splendid condition and the greens running as fast and true it was going to require something a little bit special to record the winning score.

There was no stopping Tristan on this day as he once again found the course to his liking.  The Canadian lumberjack (or is it tree surgeon?) has in recent weeks been tearing it up on the golf courses and 37 points ensured another victory for him.

Thursday, Jan. 18,
Silky Oaks – Stableford

Division 1

1st Paul Durkan (9) 40pts

2nd Anthony Atherton (13) 38pts

3rd Kevin Smith (13) 38pts

Division 2

1st S.P. Lee (22) 38pts

2nd Alun Webber (22) 33pts

3rd Ikeda Michitoshi(22) 33pts

Silky Oaks was the venue for the day’s tournament on Thursday.

Paul Durkan left nothing to chance and his fine round of 40 points saw him claim the gold in division 1 ahead of Anthony Atherton and Kevin Smith.

S.P Lee took the top prize in the second flight as his 38 points saw him home with a comfortable win.

Friday, Jan. 19,

2nd Toshi T (23) 37pts

3rd Toyoshima Shigeki (18) 34pts

The perfect golfing weather attracted 37 golfers on Friday to the marvelous facilities at Burapha.

Derek Thorogood managed to shoot 39 points and walk off into the sunset with first place safely tucked away in division 1 while Brendan Abbot posted a similar score to secure top spot in the second flight.

Saturday, Jan. 20,
Mt. Shadow – Stableford

Division 1

1st Youg Hyeon Baek (13) 38pts

2nd Rocky Jones (5) 36pts

3rd David Dines (9) 35pts

Division 2

1st Shigeki Toyoshima (18) 35pts

2nd Arnold Jones (17) 33pts

3rd Billy Allan (19) 31pts

Saturday proved to be something of an adventure as the TRGG visited a highly over-booked Mountain Shadow.  With some players having no caddies, the group had to contend with a plethora of 5-ball groups to wait behind and a rather angry starter who decided to put things right by shouting at all and sundry.

In division 1, there was no catching the winner Youg Hyeon Baek whose 38 points took him to a splendid win.  The scoring wasn’t quite so good in the second flight but Shigeki Toyoshima posted a fine 35 points to take the victory.
