The Tara Court Golf Society
Sunday, Nov. 18, Green Valley – Stableford
It was a very hot and humid day here today at Green Valley. Again we had two flights with the cut for the A flight coming in at seventeen and this is where we got the best scores, and for some even beating your handicap was not good enough to get in to the prizes.
Russell Gilroy (H/cap 17) was the winner with an excellent forty points and Craig Hitchens (12), who is playing very steady at the moment, came second with thirty nine. We then had two players with thirty seven points and here Shaun Merriman (13) came third and Michael Williams, who had been burning it up on the front nine but let it slip a bit on the back, lost out on the countback.
The scoring wasn’t quite as good in the B flight and here Bernie Stafford (18) was the winner with thirty seven points. Peter Henshaw (29) came second with thirty four points and Terry Mangan (22) got the third place with thirty two.
We had two ‘2’s today, from Nick Caulfield and Wayne Antlitz with one each.
Tuesday, Nov. 20, Plutaluang N & W – Stableford
This was a rare visit for us to the Navy course and the first time in many years for some. The overall comments were very good. The course was playing long from recent rains so we decided to play from the yellow tees (6100 yards). It is still a challenge as you don’t need a driver off every tee and avoiding the hazards needed the correct club selection. The greens were in good shape and a good speed for most players.
The scoring today was also good. The “A” division (0-17) was a tight affair with 1 point separating the top places. Nick Caulfield (5) finished first with 38 points, just one ahead of a countback on 37 that saw Gary Barling (9) in second and Daryl Burkett (13) third.
“B” division had a clear winner with Tony Kennedy (24) recording 37 points while another countback, this one on 33 points had Joe McArdle (18) in second ahead of Don Everett (23) in third.
Joe McArdle was the biggest winner of the day as he had the only 2 to add to his place prize money.
Thursday, Nov. 22, Greenwood – Stableford
This was our first visit to Greenwood in a long time but it is going to be another course on our monthly schedule now for the high season. Today we played the A and C nines in that order and most of our group thought that the C nine was in much better condition than the A, but everyone were still very happy with the overall condition.
We had two flights and again the cut for the A flight came in at seventeen. Our best score of the day also came in the A flight which Glen Armistead (16) won with thirty six points. We then had three players with thirty three points and here Russell Gilroy (17) edged the count back to come second, Ted Morris (16) was third and Nick Caulfield lost out and didn’t make the prizes, but at least he had a ‘2’ to make up for his loss.
In the B flight Joe McArdle (18) was the winner with thirty five points, Pat Carty (22) came second with thirty four and again we had a count back on thirty two points to decide the third place, which Jean Fox Choc (17) won and Frank McGowan just lost out.
Joe McArdle and Ted Morris joined Nick Caulfield in splitting the ‘2’s pot.
