IPGC Golf from Tara Court Golf

Sunday, April 5, Green Valley – Stabledford

An earlier start than usual today at Green Valley as the group was smaller than usual but it also meant that we got around quickly.  Again a very hot day for golf but neither the early start nor the heat caused a problem for Russell Gilroy and he was a very clear winner with an excellent forty one points.  Russell also got the only ‘2’ of the day and so had a very good payday.

Shaun Merriman had thirty eight points and came second and after that we had four players tied on thirty four points.  The count back meant that Rod Torrie came third, Thomas O’Neill fourth and John Kelly fifth.  Gerry Hannan also had thirty four points but unfortunately for him he lost out on the count back and got nothing!

1st Russell Gilroy (18) 41pts

2nd Shaun Merriman (10) 38pts

3rd Rod Torrie (15) 34pts

4th Thomas O’Neill (24) 34pts

5th John Kelly (27) 34pts

Tuesday, April 7, Eastern Star – Stableford

We were back at Eastern Star for a very cheap round of golf.  Although the greens were pole forked and sanded the previous week they were in reasonable condition today and very playable and all our golfers were happy with them, especially when you take in to account that the green fee was only 400 baht.  At that price we will certainly be back here again.

The greens certainly didn’t cause a problem for John Kelly who won the day with an excellent score of thirty-eight points on what is a long and difficult course.  John has featured in the prizes most of the days he has played with us and as this was his last game with us for this trip it was the perfect way to finish his holiday.  Well done John and safe trip home.

We had three players on thirty-six points and Joe McArdle came in second place, beating Gerry Hannan into third on the count back while Gerry beat Shaun Merriman to fourth.  We had no ‘2’s today.

1st John Kelly (27) 38pts

2nd Joe McArdle (13) 36pts

3rd Gerry Hannan (14) 36pts

4th Shaun Merriman (10) 36pts

Thursday, April 9, Burapha – Stableford

Now that Burapha have started their Sport Days we have put it back on our schedule and we will be making regular visits now for the low season.  This is an excellent course and it has what are probably by far the best greens of any course in the area.

Today we played the A and B course as most of our friends think these are the most enjoyable nines to play.  Because we had a large group out we decided to give everyone a choice of tees, blue or white.  Although this course off the blues is nearly 6,800 yards the majority of them decided to play off them, with a smaller group going for the shorter whites.  At the end of the day the scoring was much the same off both tees.

Gerry Hannan won the day off the blues with thirty three points.  Jon Batty was second, Joe McArdle third and William Bishop fourth respectively at one point increments, while William beat John Marsh down to fifth on a count back.

Dan Hobbs was the winner off the white tees with thirty three points and he beat Frank McGowan in second on a count back.

Off the blue tees Greg Barry and Marty Rock shared the ‘2’s pot with one each and Ted Morris had one off the whites.

Blue Tees

1st Gerry Hannan (14) 33pts

2nd Jon Batty (8) 32pts

3rd Joe McArdle (13) 31pts

4th William Bishop (16) 30pts

5th John Marsh (9) 30pts
