Yet again the forecast here was not too promising but in the end we had four groups of four going out today. We were playing the A and C nines with the cut at 10-17 and 18 plus off the yellow tees.

Steve Godfrey, with a birdie on the fourth for four points and an eagle on the eighth for five points, came in with 20 points on the front nine and won division 1 with 39 overall. Nik Evans scored 21 on the front nine and took second with 37 points and Marc Brunner was third with 35.

John Carlin beat peter Davies on an 18/15 countback after they both came in with 33 points in division 2 and Ken Miller edged Frank Grainger 19/12 on the back nine to take third place with 31 points on both cards.

We were lucky with the weather yet again, but pick, clean and place was implemented on the first tee as there were no buggies on the fairway today only the cart path.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Nik Evans, Steve Godfrey, Tim Hake and Pete Sumner, and (Div 2) John Carlin, Frank Grainger, Ray Hucknall and Paul Young.

Nik Evans birdied A3 in the ‘2’s and in division 2 there was a rollover to Pattavia on Wednesday.

Wednesday, Oct. 10, Pattavia – Stableford

The first group out today had the pick, clean and place flag but it was not needed as buggies were allowed on the fairway and the first couple of holes were in reasonable condition and quite dry.

Off the white tees today at 6650 yards and not a lot of run on the fairways it was a tough test of golf out there and 35 points was the highest score in the two divisions. Frank Grainger won division 2 with that score while John Carlin beat Peter Davies on a 19/18 countback after they both came in with 34 points.

In division 1 Tim Hake beat Paul Young 18/16 on the back nine after two cards of 32 points came in and Paul Butler was third with 30 points.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Tim Hake, Bob Poole and Pete Sumner, and (Div 2) Peter Davies, Steve Harris and Bill Kana.

In the ‘2’s today Bob Poole birdied the 13th and in division 1 two more rollovers to next week.

Friday, Oct. 12, Eastern Star – Stableford

The numbers are starting to rise and there were four places in the two divisions today with the equal cut at 10-18.3 and 18.4 plus.

Heavy rain here overnight and although buggies were allowed on the fairways we still decided to employ ‘pick clean and place’ for the round. There were some wicked pin placements here today and with the majority of the greens very slick.

Frank Kelly won division 1 with 33 points while Per Forsberg took second one point behind. There were two 30-pointers fighting for third and Nik Evans beat Paul Butler after a 15/15 back nine countback and 10/9 on the back six.

In division 2 Glyn Evans beat Tony Thorne on a 15/14 back nine countback after they both came in with 31 points, John Carlin was third five points behind and Peter Davies took fourth with a ‘stunning’ 24 points.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Steve Godfrey, Tim Hake, Dennis Scougall and Pete Sumner, and (Div 2) Peter Davies and Frank Kelly.

No ‘2’s in either division today.
