Monday, August 13, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

A very strong wind here today, the rough on the back-nine was very tough to play out from and there were quite a few tough pin placements as well.

A modest 32 points was the best score of the day and Frank Grainger posted that to win division 2, with Rod Howett in second place on 26 and John Doyle edged Mark Jennings for third on a 11/9 countback after they both came in with 24 points.

Paul Butler won division 1 with 31 points, Nik Evans was second on 27, Neil Gamble took third with 26 and in fourth place came Willy van Heetvelde with 24 points.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Nik Evans (2) and Neil Gamble, and (Div 2) Frank Grainger (2) and Mark Jennings.

No ‘2’s today so all to play for in both divisions on Wednesday.

Wednesday, August 15, St. Andrews – Stableford

We had an almost identical cut as of Monday with 11-18.5 and 18.7+ in the two divisions. Two 37’s came in division 2, with Alan Bissell beating Willy Van Heetvelde on a 20/19 back-nine countback and Frank Grainger was third with 34.

Paul Young topped division 1 with 31 points, Neil Gamble was second on 30 and Kenny Cleckner pipped Marc Brunner on a 15/12 countback after the both returned scores of 29 points.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Paul Butler and Paul Young (2), and (Div 2) Alan Bissell, Frank Grainger (2) and Willy Van Heetvelde.

Mark Jennings had the only ‘2’ to scoop the pot in division 2.

Friday, August 17, Eastern Star – Stableford

Another three weeks and the clubhouse renovations should be completed so we are informed but using the new ladies changing rooms it was a lot better. Heavy rain was forecast in this region today but no problem for all of our groups out today, a few spots of rain but for only 10 minutes.

Harry Vincenzi’s 37 points was the best score of the day, winning division 1 ahead of Paul Butler in second on 34 and Frank Kelly third with 32.

Glyn Evans with two blobs on the front nine scores still won division 2 with 33 points overall while the Welsh boy Curtis Hessler came in second one point behind and Leo Adam was third with 28.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Paul Butler (2) and (Div 2) Harry Vincenzi (3).

No ‘2’s in either division today so rollovers to Eastern Star next Friday.
