Jomtien Golf with the IPGC
Monday, March 23, The Emerald – Stableford
A slight improvement in the course condition today but we are going to wait for a reduction in price before we book here again.
We had 2 divisions with the cut coming at 6-18 in division 1 and Terry Madsen, playing off 13, won that flight with just 31 points. We then had three players tied up on 29 points, but a 14/14/12 back-nine count back saw Don Head taking second after edging Dave Horne 10/7 on the back six and poor old William Chang lost out.
Miss Nut, playing off the white tees as always, topped division 2 with 34 points while Alan Bissell took second after beating Magne Gunnarson 20/17 on the back nine, both coming in with 33 points.
Near pins went to (Div 1) Kari Kuparinen, William Chang and Miss Nut.
Alan Bissell & Tim Hake.
Terry Madsen birdied the 13th for the only ‘2’ in the top flight and Miss Nut, in division 2, did likewise on the 15th after putting her tee shot two feet from the pin. She was a happy lady back at the presentation.
Wednesday, March 25, Rayong C.C. – Stableford
Our first visit here for a couple of months due to the heavy booking and the unacceptable tee times offered to us in the high season. It made a nice change and the majority of players were happy with the condition of the course.
Alan Bissell headed the field with 37 points and with two 36’s fighting for second place is was William Chang who prevailed over Alan Duckett 13/11 on the back six holes.
Near pins were claimed by Terry Madsen, Alan Bissell and Charlie Charalambous.
There were no ‘2’s recorded today.
Friday, March 27, Eastern Star – Stableford
We had 12 players out today in division 1 today with a cut of 8-17 and 15 out in division 2. Brian Green, playing off 16, had his best round for some considerable time to top the division 1 standings with an excellent 41 points. Wilf Latham came in second someway back on 36 and Bill Bertram was third with 33.
An even par 36 points was the winning score in division 2 with Lars Svensson taking the top podium position. Still in form, Miss Nut came in second after beating Angiya Robsho 18/16 on the back nine, both tied on 32 points overall.
Near pins were collected by (Div 1) Colin Aspinall, Dave Horne and Terry Madsen, and (Div 2) Tim Hake and Willy Van Heetvelde.
We had no ‘2’s once again so a double rollover to Eastern Star next Friday.
The numbers are still diminishing and we said Bon Voyage this week to Teddy Bourne, Jim Connelly, Magne Gunnarson and Geoff Stubbs.
There were a few of our players in Hua Hin this week and congratulations to a certain person, no names mentioned, for winning the prize for the longest drive of the week, six and a half hours from Jomtien to Hua Hin. Well done Harry V!
