PSC golf Bunker Boys @ The Ranch

Monday, Dec. 31, Eastern Star – Stableford

Five groups of golfers today for our last game of 2012, and we made a late change of venue to utilize a special offer from Eastern Star on this public holiday.  Although we were behind another large group of golfers, the course was not overly busy (considering the crowds we encountered on the previous public holiday), and we were able to make reasonable progress, completing the round in just over 4 and a half hours.

There have been continuous problems over the last few years with the greens here, and today their scruffy appearance made them seem actually worse than they really were.  Colin Greig produced the best score of the day and was the only player to better his handicap on this tricky course, to end the year on a high note.

1st Colin Greig (12) 37pts

2nd Matt Shotton (20) 34pts

3rd Mashi Kaneta (13) 32pts

4th John Hughes (18) 32pts

Near Pins:  Mike Corner, Jack Robertson and Paul Smith(2).

Wednesday, Jan 2, Mountain Shadow – Stableford

Just 4 groups of golfers made the trip to the treacherous Mountain Shadow course to play the first game of the new year.  The course was in great shape, apart from the bunkers being untidy, and the greens were as difficult as ever, particularly since the greenkeeper had decided to start the new year with some very difficult pin positions.

Colin Greig continued where he left off last year, playing to his handicap and making a winning start to 2013.  Tony Scambler also had a good start to the year, coming in 3rd place and taking 3 near pins.

1st Colin Greig (12) 36pts

2nd Michael Brett (17) 35pts

3rd Tony Scambler (7) 34pts

4th William Macey (19) 34pts

Near Pins:  Tony Scambler (3)

Friday, Jan. 4, Greenwood C&A – Medal

A good turnout today for our visit to the popular Greenwood course, giving us two flights for our first medal event of 2013.  A feature of this course is that the apron around the greens is always left as second cut (a feature which some players feel detracts from an otherwise excellent course) and today the grass was even longer than usual.

We welcomed back Keith Norman and Gerry Cooney after a 3 week break over Christmas – surely that’s too long a layoff for any keen golfer.

Tony Robbins produced the best round of the day, managing to save par on the difficult A9 hole (our 18th hole today) to take the honours by a single shot ahead of Lars Strom and Mike Brett.  Apart from the normal winner’s prize, Tony also picked up the first KPK Food voucher of 2013 – many thanks to our generous sponsor for their continuing support.

A Flight

1st Tony Robbins (12) net 72

2nd Keith Norman (12) net 74

3rd Jon Batty (11) net 75

B Flight

1st Lars Strom (23) net 73

2nd Mike Brett (19) net 73

3rd Mike Corner (19) net 75

Near Pins:  Gerry Cooney and Ken Ellmore (2).

Note:  The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society, who now play out of The Ranch bar on Pattaya 3rd Road (in front of the fire station, and almost opposite the Buffalo Bar).  We play three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but competitive golf competition why not come and join us.

We meet at The Ranch at 9 a.m. for breakfast and transportation, and new players are always welcome.  Contact Buff on 086 046 5091 or 080 605 5663 for all enquiries.  You can find all the news, schedules and results on our website at http://www. bunkersociety.com.
