The Bunker Boys Golf Society
Monday, July 3, Mt. Shadow (blue tees) – Stableford
1st Colin Greig (8) 37pts
2nd Neil Carter (12) 33pts
3rd Les Cobban (7) 33pts
Near Pins: Jimmy Carr, Les Cobban, Kob Glover, Colin Greig.
Another marvelous day on the golf course at one of our regular venues that was in good condition. The rough was punishing though, as the rains had encouraged growth making it difficult to get out without losing a shot.
The first group was late on the tee and the second group jumped into their spot and proceeded to run around the empty course in three hours, leaving the second group four holes behind. Then instead of waiting for a player in the last group to come in for a lift home they left the course knowing that their passenger would get a ride with someone in his group.
Kob Glover, the only lady in our field, managed to claim a second near pin in two weeks. Colin Greig was the only player to beat his handicap while Neil beat Les on the count back with 17 to Les’s 15 on the back nine.
At prize giving Les Cobban was awarded the golfer of the month trophy for June having come in with a late run to pip Jimmy Carr. A round of drinks was appreciated by all.
Wednesday, July 5, Eastern Star (white tees) – Stableford
1st Les Cobban (7) 32pts
2nd Frank Quinlan (32) 32pts
Near Pins: Les Cobban, Nial Glover, Neil Carter, (Neil Carter and Nial Glover shared a near pin as they were unable to decide who was closer).
We had not played this course for a while and found it to be in excellent condition and many players suggested that we play here more often. The greens were very good and were a fair pace.
Les Cobban the GOTM for June edged out Frank on the count back with 18 on the back nine to Frank’s 14. Les would not pose for a photo for this win as well as the GOTM, claiming to be shy.
Friday, July 7, Bangpra (white tees) – Stableford
1st Robbie Watts (8) 36pts
2nd Les Cobban (7) 34pts
3rd Colin Greig (8) 34pts
Near Pins: Colin Greig (2), Paul Corner (2).
Cloudy skies welcomed us to a regular course on our schedule that was in better condition than we have seen it in quite a while. Overnight heavy rains had left a number of greens sopping wet, making it like putting through treacle but as the day progressed they dried out making the back nine more playable.
Robbie Watts, our reigning club champion, was the only player to equal his handicap while Les beat Colin on the count back 18 to17. Colin and Paul Corner played the short holes well managing to claim 2 near pins each. Les had a good week claiming a first, second and third place in this week.
