Monday, May 9, Black Mountain – Stableford

Our annual trip here to Hua Hin as always during the second week of May and we held a four round stableford competition.  We were staying at the Thipurai City Hotel which is a perfect location in town.

Black Mountain is most players’ favourite course here and we played off the 61 tees today with two divisions out and the equal cut set at 6-16.9 and 17.2 +.

Colin James, playing off 19, scored 24 points on the front nine to win division 2 with 44 points in total.  Second was Paul Hartley on 41 and in third place was Gil Phillips with 33.

Chris Voller topped division 1 with 40 points and then there were two 38’s fighting for second place, Grant Cadell beating Martin Grimoldby on a 21/18 back nine count back.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Grant Cadell, Martin Grimoldby, Pete Sumner and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) Mark Armstrong, Roger DeJongh and Gil Phillips.

Gill Phillips birdied the 11th while for the only ‘2’ of the day.

Tuesday, May 10, Springfield – Stableford

A short journey across Hua Hin and we arrived at the course in less than 30 minutes.  An identical cut as Monday and Chris Voller returned the best score of the day with 37 points to win the top flight,  In second place was Martin Grimoldby on 35 and John Pegrum took third with 34.

In division 2, Glyn Evans was the winner with 36 points, two up on Don Head in second on 34 while David Taylor was third one point behind Don.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Chris Voller (3), and (Div 2) Mark Armstrong, Don Head and Paul Hartley.

Mark Armstrong birdied A6 for the only ‘2’ of the day.

Thursday, May 12, Black Mountain – Stableford

After a few discussions after Monday’s mix up regarding which tee to use we were playing the 65 not the 61 today and the cut was set at 6 – 14 and 17+

Playing his best golf for a long time, Gil Phillips won division 2 with 38 points ahead of Colin James in second on 35 and Paul Hartley third with 33.

In form Martin Grimoldby took division 1 plaudits with 35 points, with Grant Cadell second three points behind and Chris Voller third on 30.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Phil Mitchell and John Pegrum (2), and (Div 2) Roger DeJongh, Colin James and Gil Phillips.

Phil Mitchell and John Pegrum recorded the first ‘2’s this week in division 1, both on the 11th, and Colin James birdied the same hole in division 2.

Friday, May 13, The Banyan Tree – Stableford

Our final game of the week and we had the same cut in the two divisions as Thursday.

Martin Grimoldby shot his best score of the week, winning the first division with 40 points.  Chris Voller came in second on 36 and John Oxley was third with 35.

Gil Phillips topped division 2 with 39 points, Don Head was second with 33 and Rod Howett took third with 30.

Near pins were shared by (Div 1) Phil Mitchell (2), Pete Sumner and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) Don Head (2), Rod Howett and Gil Phillips.

There were no ‘2’s today in either division.

Congratulations to Martin Grimoldby who was the overall winner of the tour with 148 points.  Chris Voller came second with 143 and Gil Phillips was third on a 139.
