Sunday, Nov. 27, Green Valley – Stableford
A Flight
1st Gus Guidetti (12) 39pts
2nd Declan Kelly (11) 37pts
3rd Shaun Tracy (12) 36pts
B Flight
1st Norman Cheetham (16) 36pts
2nd Vincent Gras (15) 36pts
3rd Russell Gilroy (17) 35pts
Today here at Green Valley we had a very nice breeze which made it very comfortable for golf. Also the course is starting to dry out with a bit of run on the ball. Maybe that is why we had good scoring in both flights.
Gus Guidetti is here for a short break and he carried on where he left off on his last trip, returning the best overall score of the day and winning the A Flight with thirty nine points, which also included a birdie 2. Declan Kelly kept up his very steady golf despite another cut in his handicap but had to settle for second place with thirty seven points and also popped in a ‘2’ to top up his winnings. Shaun Tracy took the third place with thirty six points.
Norman Cheetham has just arrived back and has quickly made his mark by winning the B Flight with thirty six points, beating his fellow countryman Vincent Gras on a count back. Russell Gilroy made it a hat trick for our Australian friends by taking the third place with thirty five points.
Tuesday, Nov. 29, Crystal Bay – Stableford
1st Gary Barling (8) 40pts
2nd Declan Kelly (11) 39pts
3rd Nick Caulfield (5) 38pts
4th Dale Walton (6) 36pts
5th Joe McArdle (140 34pts
2’s: Declan Kelly (two), Nick Caulfield, Dale Walton and Joe McArdle.
Another beautiful day for golf here at Crystal Bay and the course was in excellent condition, earning praise from all our golfers. The fairways and greens were very good but unfortunately the bunkers still need a bit of attention.
We played off the longer white tees, which was just as well we did as even off those tees we got some great scores, mainly from the lower handicappers. Gary Barling had to shoot four over par gross to have his first win with us for a while with forty points as Declan Kelly kept up his remarkable form to come second with thirty nine. Declan is by far the most consistent player with us for getting ‘2’s and today he wasn’t satisfied with one so he had two of them!
Nick Caulfield shot three over par off his five-handicap to come third with thirty eight points. Dale Walton played to his six-handicap to score thirty six points and take the fourth place and Joe McArdle took the fifth and last place with thirty four.
Thursday, Dec. 1, Khao Kheow – Stableford
Yellow Tees
1st Garry Barling (8) 36pts
2nd Nick Caulfield (5) 34pts
3rd Dale Walton (6) 33pts
White Tees
1st Frank McGowan (19) 39pts
2nd Joe Peters (20) 38pts
3rd John Fenwick (20) 38pts
We had unusual weather conditions here today at Khao Kheow with almost gale force winds for the first six or seven holes, so strong that on a par three of 180 yards even low handicappers were using drivers to make the green.
Again we played two flights, one off the longer yellow tees and one off the shorter white tees and despite the strong winds we got good scoring off both.
Garry Barling was playing his last game with us for this trip and again he came out the winner with thirty six points. Nick Caulfield came second with thirty four and Dale Walton, who was celebrating his birthday on what was also his last game, took the third place with thirty three points.
We had two ‘2’s off the yellow tees with Phelim Moran and Nick Caulfield having one each.
Naturally the scoring was better off the white tees but considering the strong wind they were very good indeed. Frank McGowan was the winner with thirty nine points, then we had two players with thirty eight points with Joe Peters coming out on top to take the second spot on the count back from John Fenwick in third place.
