PSC Golf from the Bunker Boys
Monday, Sept. 10,
Laem Chabang B & C – Stableford
A group of eight Bunker Boys joined about one hundred and twenty other golfers for a PSC sponsored event at the Laem Chabang course. As you would expect with this number of golfers play was slow despite a reminder on each scorecard to be mindful of the speed of play.
With the benefit of hindsight, the pick clean and place rule should have been implemented from the outset as the course was very wet; however, by the time it became evident it was already too late.
Despite having some of our best players in the field the Bunker Boys didn’t cover themselves in glory with only Geoff Parker and Les Cobban taking a near pin each.
Our best score was courtesy of Les with thirty-five points followed by Michael Brett on thirty-three and Jimmy Carr on thirty-two. Les Cobban also managed to snare a lucky door prize, whilst Stuart Brown lamented the fact that he wasn’t able to choose his favorite number which as luck would have it did win a prize. No prizes for guessing what his favorite number was.
Prior to the presentation of prizes at the Links Bar, a smorgasbord of fine food was available which was quickly demolished by some hungry golfers.
Wednesday, Sept. 12, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford
1st Takeshi Hakozaki (12) 39pts
2nd Nial Glover (19) 38pts
3rd Neil Carter (11) 33pts

Despite officially being in monsoon season for some time it’s only now that we are experiencing the real thing. Regular heavy overnight rain is making courses very wet with the requirement for pick, clean, and place becoming the norm. Today there was occasionally the requirement to move away from casual water to achieve a dry stance. Heavy overcast skies are normal also but when the sun does break through the humidity skyrockets.
All of these conditions were in play today, however, had no ill effects on Takeshi Hakozaki who stormed home to take first place with a superb thirty-nine points. His round included a couple of easy birdies and a few missed opportunities to break forty. Nial Glover had his best round for some time and would have expected to win with a very good thirty-eight points. No doubt all eyes will now be upon him as his score indicates his handicap may be a bit generous. The rest of the field were way back with Neil Carter taking third on thirty-three points.
Near pins went to Jimmy Carr, Neil Carter, and Steve Durey who despite having a Barry Crocker of a round managed to snare two.
Friday, Sept. 14,
Mt. Shadow – Stableford
1st Michael Brett (14) 39pts
2nd Jimmy Carr (15) 37pts
3rd Neil Carter (11) 34pts
Once again the weather gods smiled upon us with rain overnight and into the morning but fine again for golf. Sooner or later I feel a drenching coming on.
The Mountain Shadow course was in good condition despite rain. Nevertheless the pick, clean and place rule applied. A few of the greens were a bit substandard, particularly the sixteenth where a bit of repair work was augmented by the course dogs. The wind was very light so conditions were on the hot and humid side.
Scoring was above average today on what is normally considered a difficult course on which to accumulate a good score. Neil Carter took third place with thirty-four points. Jimmy Carr returned a card of thirty-seven which most days would be enough to win, alas it was only good enough for second. The winner on the day was Michael Brett who despite an average front nine of sixteen picked up his game on the back with twenty-three points to return a total of thirty-nine points. Near pins went to Trevor Priestley, Mashi Kaneta, Geoff Parker, and Neil Carter.
Mashi Kaneta made a welcome return to the Bunker Boys for a game prior to next week’s visit to Hua Hin with a combined Tropical/Bunker Boys group visiting this very desirable golfing destination for four rounds at Majestic Creek, Banyan, Black Mountain and Springfield.x
