IPGC Golf from the Tara Court

The Tara Court Group had its second reunion in Ireland this year, this time a two-day event in Castlecomer Golf Club on Saturday, July 22 and in Mount Wolsley Golf Club on Sunday, July 23 and it turned out to be a great success.  All those who took part are members of the Tara Court Golf Group and play with us when they come to Thailand on holiday.

We had a total of twenty four golfers playing on what was a beautiful weekend as we were very lucky with the weather with sunshine on both days.  We had people come from the very top of Ireland to the very bottom of it.

On Saturday morning we all met in Castlecomer Golf Club for breakfast before we played.  This is a beautiful golf course although a bit hilly and with tricky greens and for most of us it was a first time ever to play here, so except for one golfer the scoring was average.  The exception here was Gerry Hannan who had traveled all the way from Donegal to play here and posted an amazing 40 points to come out a very clear winner.

Joe Peters came the closest to Gerry with 36 points, which was again an excellent score as this was also Joe’s first time to play here.  Paddy Kingham had traveled from Monaghan to play and he came third with 33 points, while Michael Healy, who was playing his home course and which should have made him favorite to win, had to settle for fourth place as he lost out on a count back to Paddy.

On Sunday morning we all met again in beautiful Mount Wolsley for a snack before we played the second course of the weekend.  This is an absolutely beautiful golf club and resort and everyone was delighted with it.  It was also the first time most of us had played here but I think it won’t be our last.

On this day the winner was Sean Connolly with a very steady 36 points.  One shot behind in second place was Terry Kelly, Ger Lodge was third with 33 and Sean Hallahan came fourth with 31.

We also has a prize for the most improved golfer over the two days and this was won by John Connolly who improved his score from Saturday by thirteen points.  We also had a booby prize for the least improved and this was presented to Richie Martin who dropped eleven points from his Saturday score.

Gerry Hannan was the overall winner over the two days with a total of 74 points, very steady golf.  Anthony Dillon came second with 65 points, Joe Peters was third with 64 and John Long took the fourth place 63.

We have to compliment the management of Mount Wolsley as they very generously gave us a complimentary voucher for four green fees which was worth 180 Euro or 7,000 baht.  We did a draw from the cards for this and the winner was Teddy Lodge, so Teddy will have many friends now waiting to see who he invites in his free four-ball!

Also a special word of thanks goes to Michael Healy. who booked the golf and accommodation and arranged the meals all at a very reasonable price considering the quality of the both the courses and the food.
