PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Tuesday, Sept. 29, Treasure Hill – Stableford

In a week when Alex Field played some superb golf, our attention turned to Treasure Hill GC.  Firstly, on arrival on Monday, we were notified that the current PSC member rate of 1,050 THB for green fee, caddie and cart had been extended through to November.  We trust that golf societies support this great deal as the recent rains have aided in turning this course from great to immaculate condition.  We congratulate Treasure Hill management on their pro-active direction.

We teed off under blue skies for twenty minutes and then the rain gods stirred.  We knew that play was impossible when one golf cart almost capsized.  Back at the clubhouse, management dutifully informed us that a full rain check was in order, so, over lunch and a few beers, to a man we agreed to return the following day.

(L to R) Martin Todd, Alex Field, Mike Gosden & Brad Todd.

On return, we welcomed Takeshi Hakosaki, Jerry Dobbs and JJ Harney.  The weather was perfect and we played off the yellow tees.

In the repechage, only two golfers bettered their handicap and Alex Field one-putted his way around to edge out Martin Todd.  Brad Todd awoke from his slumber to display a creditable performance and Peter McDonald gained bragging rights over his dodgy friends.

2nd Martin Todd (10) 37pts

3rd Brad Todd (22) 33pts

4th Peter McDonald (12) 32pts

Thursday, Oct. 1, Pattavia – Stableford

Two buses left the Growling Swan a little earlier than the scheduled 8.30 am departure time and all golfers were keen as ever to get to the ‘plantation course’ (Pattavia) as it is a favorite of The Growling Swan golfers.

(L to R) Peter McDonald, Rocky Lawson & Rob Cross.

The weather was as good as one could hope for at this time of the year, with overcast skies keeping the temperatures cool, but there was always the threat of rain.  We got through dry though and the rain started falling just as the last group hit the showers.

The course was in good nick as usual with the greens true but quite fast and tricky – just ask Dobbsy as he found out on the 2nd green!  Three putts were not uncommon on the day.

Bob Cross took the chocolates from J.J. Harney who took out second (on countback) from Mikito Homma coming in third.

1st Rob Cross (28) 37pts

2nd J.J. Harney (12) 35pts

3rd Mikito Homma (18) 35pts

4th Jerry Dobbs (24) 34pts

5th Kevin Waycott (8) 33pts

Near Pins: #4 Kevin Waycott, #7 Jerry Dobbs, #13 Mike Gosden, #17 Graham Rice.

Long Putts: #9 Rocky Lawson, #18 Peter McDonald
