Wednesday January 8th
Green Valley
30 members of the Billabong turned up on the 1st tee having, hopefully, survived the festive season, were surprised to find that they faced the December medal round and another to follow at the end of the month. But judging by the scores, the recent celebrations contributed to a disappointing day for most of the men.
One member had an 11 followed by an 8 to destroy his ambitions and 2 members used their putters 10 times on the par 3 sixteenth. Unfortunately our sponsor of the monthly medals, Brian Chapman, CEO of Haven Consultants (Financial Advisors), was in UK and, therefore, unable to attend the competition.
Steve Mahoney (12) had to overcome a multiple countback for 4th place with a net 74, two shots adrift of William Macey (21) who had to endure 2 trebles and 2 doubles on the way home. Howard Marson (21) lost the countback for 1st place with a net 69 but an 8 and a 7 on a par three did not help his cause.
Peter Nixon (7) took the honours, dropping only 2 shots on each half.
The ladies played their medal in December, the winner being Miss Lak, so a Stableford competition on Wednesday.
Miss Porn (18) occupied 3rd place with 35 points, but she ran out of steam at the end with only 5 points in the last 5 holes. Miss Lak (26) had 26 points after the 10th hole but this form did not continue and 10 points thereafter relegated her to 2nd place.
The consistent Miss Sa (16) had a slow start to her round with only 7 points after 4 holes but then the turbo kicked in and 6 pars followed for 23 points on the front. But she ran out of energy thereafter and 38 points in all.
Four 2s today going to Miss Porn, Eddy Beilby, Keith Allen and Peter Nixon.
