The Traveller’s Rest Golf Group
Monday, April 23, Phoenix – Stableford
This week we had over 120 golfers from the UK, Australia, Denmark, America, South Africa, Japan and Korea compete in the daily TRGG competitions and the friendships that are forged never ceases to amaze me.
Monday, April 23, Silky Oak – Stableford
1st Richard Talbot (17) 36pts
2nd Graham Brown (12) 34pts
3rd Kerry Langlands (10) 34pts
The greens at Silky Oaks are in the worst condition I’ve ever seen them. They appear to have some sort of disease and were extremely slow. Three and four putting was the order of the day except for R.C. Talbot who posted a fine score of 37 points to take first prize and also improve on his number one position as “Golfer of the Year” Taking second and third place were Graham Brown and Kerry Langlands respectively.
Tuesday, April 24,
St. Andrews – Stableford
1st Neil Bramley (9) 35pts
2nd Paul Durkan (8) 34pts
3rd Barry Sowman (8) 34pts
St Andrews is in magnificent condition, which is amazing as this and Silky Oak literally run adjacent to each other. The greens were an absolute pleasure to play on; a simple putting stroke was all that was required instead of smacking the ball to the hole.
Neil Bramley, a right handed player with a left hander’s grip, took full advantage of the course conditions to post his first win in over thirty games. His 35 points was just enough to edge his way home from Paul Durkan and Barry Sowman, both with 34 points.
Wednesday, April 25, Khao Kheow – Stroke
Division 1
1st Gary Brocket (12) net 75
2nd Christian Boysen (8) net 75
3rd Graham Brown (12) net 76
Division 2
1st New Boysen (21) net 79
2nd Billy Allan (17) net 81
3rd Derek Hutcheson (14) net 81
The last Wednesday of the month is our monthly medal competition and the chosen course was Khao Kheow.
Family loyalties were stretched to the limit as Christian Boysen and his partner New Boysen battled it out for first place but unbeknownst to them another rival was on the horizon. Gary Brocket was finishing strongly and it took a count back to the last hole on the back nine to determine that Gary was the winner.
Thursday, April 26, Phoenix Gold – Stableford
Division 1
1st Don Hawkins (16) 45pts
2nd Paul Durkan (8) 42pts
3rd David Booth (16) 39pts
Division 2
1st Shigeki Toyoshima (18) 43pts
2nd Gordon Vallance (21) 39pts
3rd Andrew Rich (22) 38pts
Don Hawkins or “The Hawk” as he likes to be known scored the best round of the week with a massive 45 points at Phoenix. There must have been something in the drinking water as Shigeki Toyoshima’s 43 points took first place in division two, however 38 points in division one didn’t even rate a mention and 37 in division two was only good enough for 5th place.
Friday, April 27, Burapha – Stableford
Division 1
1st Ted Senior (15) 40pts
2nd Se-Jun Park (11) 36pts
3rd Greg Bates (14) 36pts
Division 2
1st Brendan Abbott (21) 40pts
2nd Nino Dinardo (19) 34pts
3rd Mitch Ikeda (22) 34pts
Two forty pointers took first places in both divisions at Burapha with Father Ted Senior continuing his great form to take top spot in division one and his counterpart Father Brendan Abbott lifted the chalice in division two.
