PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, July 29, Burapha – Stableford

A good size field of 35 Outbackers played Burapha C and D in cloudy weather with a cool breeze that got stronger as the day went on.  The course as usual, was in perfect condition and the rough as brutal as ever, which always seems to be the case on these two nines.

John Low has become the new ‘King of Burapha’ with his second win in a row here, scoring 39pts to win Div A from Jim Brackett (38) and the consistent John Cunningham, who headed a four-way count back between Peter Nixon, Paul Bourke and Dennis Pelly all on 36.

(From left) Sel Wegner, John Lawton, Tom Byrne, Peter LeNoury & Eddie Beilby.(From left) Sel Wegner, John Lawton, Tom Byrne, Peter LeNoury & Eddie Beilby.

In Div B, Svenn Lund had a winning return with 38pts to beat another big count back of four players all on 35pts this time, headed by Steve Mann with John Stafford third; Rosco & Paul Rodgers were the other two just missing the podium.

Jarrod Braithwaite had a great 39pts to win Div C from Tim Knight 34, who registered his 41st podium place this year and Andy Makara took third, also on count back, from Barney & Ivan Plunkett, all on 32.

There were six ‘2’s by Jim Brackett (C5), Barney Clarkson, John Cunningham & David Davies (D2) and two from Peter Nixon, one of which was from a great drive on the par-four 16th (D7) which left him an eight inch putt for eagle!  Congratulations Peter on a fantastic drive.

Tuesday, July 30, Phoenix – Stableford

13 golfers travelled to Phoenix today to play Mountain and Lakes in almost European conditions; the rain persisting for most of the round which amazingly did not deter the hardy Outback golfers (Hmmm!).  The water from the heavy rains immediately prior to start drained away quickly to leave the course soft but in good condition.

An outstanding round of 70 gross (40pts) gave Ian Heddle a five shot win over Kiwi, Gil Mohi (35) and two more players who both won Monday at Burapha; Svenn Lund and John Low both with 34, Svenn getting the nod.

Ian had five birdies in his round but no ‘2’s and was disappointed to only play the four par 5’s in level par; the only ‘2’ came from Dion Lane on the 16th.

1st Ian Heddle (2) 40pts

2nd Gilvrey Mohi (7) 35pts

3rd Svenn Ole Lund (14) 34pts

4th John Low (11) 34pts

Wednesday, July 31, Siam Plantation – Stableford

17 players here at Plantation today and the turn of the C & B loops and Rosco, who can be very dangerous off a handicap as high as 16, demonstrated his love for this course with a fantastic 42pts.  Surprisingly, Rosco only won by one from that man again, John Low who although he had been cut since his win on Monday, still managed another excellent round of 41pts.

So John finished on a high, heading back to New Zealand the next day with Dion and Gilvrey –we shall look forward to seeing you again next year.

The remaining podium places went to New York Steve (37pts), Gilvrey Mohi (34) and Steve Mann (33) who beat Paul Greenaway and Jim Bryan on count back.

There were two ‘2’s, both on the 8th (C8), from Ben Collins & Rosco.

1st Rosco Langoulant (16) 42pts

2nd John Low (11) 41pts

3rd Steve Poznanski (13) 37pts

5th Stephen Mann (13) 33pts

Friday, August 2, Green Valley – Stableford

32 Outbackers played the ever popular Green Valley where we found the greens had been scarified and sanded but were still good to put on.  Welcome back to Geoff Braithwaite and John Leonard and also welcome to Queenslanders Kim and Steve Duffer & Dion Hyland, playing with the Outback for the first time.

Peter LeNoury continues to play well out of the Outback and today was no exception; his 37pts in Div A was enough to beat a group of four, all on 36, with Peter Nixon second and Sel Wegner third on count back.  Geoff Braithwaite and Paul Greenaway were the other two who just missed out.

Barry Copestake had the top score of the day to win Div B with a great 41pts from Tom Byrne 38, both of whom have signed to come to Hua Hin in just over three weeks time, so watch out for them in the book!

The recently retired John Lawton now has time to concentrate on his golf and he hasn’t taken long to find a winning way with 36pts today to win Div C from Eddie Beilby (35) and Andy Makara (33).

There were six ‘2’s from Tom Byrne & John Lawton (4th), Steve Mann (9th) and Peter LeNoury, Sugar Ray & Jarrod Braithwaite all on the 12th.
