The Golf Club weekly roundup
Monday, Dec. 5, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford
T1st Paul Walsh (15) 39pts
T1st Ernie McInerney (10) 39pts
T3rd Alan Rothwell (7) 36pts
T3rd Dave Mather (8) 36pts
Hello’s and goodbye’s see Ian Brimble heading back to the States as we say welcome back to Smilin’ Dave Mather and Alan Rothwell, the Mayor of New York. Yes, it’s that time of year that signals high season approaching.
Ian has had a good run of late and today he nicked the Caddy Smile near pin prize today. New arrivals Dave and Alan shared the third podium spot on 36 points. That’s a nice start fellas!
Top of the totem pole was shared by Paul Walsh and Ernie McInerney who both turned in solid scores of 39 points. I think it’s the kha thom moo helping Ernie on the back 9!
Tuesday, Dec. 6, Pattavia Century (white tees) – Stableford
1st Bryan Carroll (18) 36pts
2nd Robbie Taylor (14) 35pts
T3rd Kenny Aihara (4) 34pts
T3rd Alan Rothwell (7) 34pts
Our praise of Pattavia continues and a full sheet of golfers will attest to the quality of this golf course. These greens are not for the faint of heart and you must accept the fact there will be a few 3-putts.
Kenny Aihara and Alan Rothwell came back with good scores of 34 points to tie for third. Alan also took the near pin prize. Robbie Taylor must have been well chuffed to beat them both by a stroke.
With an outstanding 36 points, Bryan Carroll took the top prize. Bryan is one of the few golfers who have played both Augusta National and Pine Valley and actually won the Ransome trophy at Pine Valley as a member of the Wentworth Club in London a few decades back. He seems to have his game together this trip as he had a win the previous week also, so ya better watch out!
Thursday, Dec. 8, Greenwood (yellow tees) – Stableford
1st Alain Hefner (18) 45pts
2nd Alan Rothwell (7) 40pts
T3rd Ben Denham (1) 38pts
T3rd Paul Walsh (15) 38pts
Monday’s winner was back up on the podium as Paul Walsh tied for third place with long hittin’ Ben Denham. You would think a big red 40 at the top of your card should be good enough for the win, right? Most days yes, but today Alan Rothwell could only muster second on the leaderboard.
With a personal record best, Alain Hefner’s tally of 45 points took the cake and the plate also. Alain is joining us from France but seems to be quite happy in the tropics. Our buddy Todd Benedis won the Caddy Smile near pin, but then lost it to Nate on the Ohio State game!
Friday, Dec. 9, Silky Oaks (white tees) – Stableford
1st Fred Birch (20) 36pts
2nd Dave Ferris (19) 36pts
3rd Ian Stockton (18) 36pts
4th Fred Graham (17) 36pts
There were some interesting numbers out there today as the leaderboard will attest to. In the end, it was a strange four way tie for first place!
The course was great in the fairways, but still a bit wooly on the greens. There were no complaints from the peanut gallery as the all-in rate of 1,750 baht shows tremendous value for this course.
Ally Greer had no problem with the near pin so thanks for the contribution to the Caddy Smile prize.
We have not seen Freddy Birch’s name in lights lately so it was good to see him share the win the other regulars. Ian Stockton and Dave Ferris (your Monthly Medal winner of last week) also strode home with 36 on the card.
Fred has also been hiding from the podium lately, so we hope this win here today will bring him back for more.
