Phoenix Members Golf Society

It seems the high season has finished a little early this year.  The course here at Phoenix is nowhere near as busy as it has been the last 3 or 4 months.  However there are still enough players around to fill most of the tee times on all three courses.

This last year the courses at Phoenix have shown a remarkable improvement after the appointment of a new head green-keeper, but now the course is getting more mature each year there does seem to be many things that need to be addressed and improved even more.

It may be that something may happen soon with the strong rumour that at last some company has either made an offer to buy the club or has already done so?  We will soon find out.  This can only mean good news for all concerned.

Onto the day’s game, Tuesday, March 12, and Bengt Hellstrom returned the best score of the day of 35 points, thus proving that this course is not the pushover many people think it is.  No one played under their handicap today.  In second place was Sergio Poggi with 34 points, third came Jim Neilson with 34 and in fourth spot was Peter Harris on 33.

Near pins went to Jim Carlson, Mark Jennings, Stuart Gordon & Jim Neilson.

It certainly was Bengt’s day today because he also won the free massage lucky draw prize donated by our hosts The Relax Bar at Ban Amphur.  They also donate a free drink every game as well and the recipient of that was yours truly.  The other lucky draw consolation prize went to Mukesh Thakker, which was poetic justice because he just missed out on a podium place by way of count back on the back nine holes.

Onto Friday, March 15, our winner was the banana man, Granville Swanton, who won by a good margin of four strokes to return 37 points.  In second place was Pierre Bietry with 33 and third was the man in fairly consistent form at present, Peter Harris who scored 32 points.

Near pins went to Pierre Bietry (2) and Thiery Petrement (heaven knows how he did this with the hangover he arrived at the course with today).

We welcomed Clive Robinson back this week after a long absence and he duly won the free massage lucky draw prize.  The free drink went to Mark Jennings.  Fitting really as this would be his last game for a while whilst he goes back to work to bolster our pension funds up.  Richard Baldwin managed to receive the last lucky draw prize as a consolation.

We play every Tuesday and Friday at approx 11.30 am and non-Phoenix guests are always welcome.  If you would like to join in our fun please call me on 087 091 7565.  We also organise sea fishing trips every fortnight.
