Monday, Nov. 25, Burapha – Stableford

It was a hello to some familiar names from Geraldton, West Australia; Quilly, Herdy & Mark to name but a few and also welcome back to Angus Neilson, Wally Brown, Mick Indge & Svenn Lund, bringing the number playing at Burapha today to 31.

There were a few rumbles of discontent that we stayed on the shorter white tees for the A & B loops this week but you can be sure we will be back on the blues before too long.

The weather was perfect and the course as usual was in great condition, although new sand in some bunkers made for some interesting lies.  The high season (and rates) is now with us, bringing with it a somewhat slower pace of play but the scores were better than usual with Greg Hill having the best of the day to win Div B with a great 42pts.  Stephen Blazsanyik (better known as Waldo) took second on 38 after beating Pete Stonebridge on count back and Bruce Mcadam filled fourth spot on 36.

Div A was a Scottish quinella with the popular Angus Neilson celebrating his return with 40pts to beat fellow Scot, Jim Black on 38.  Wally Brown, also having his first game with us on this trip played well for his 37pts to edge John Cunningham and Steve Mann on count back.

There were four ‘2’s from Wally Brown & Pete Stonebridge (A3) and Jim Black & Bob Finley (B3).

Div A (0-15)

1st Angus Neilson (8) 40pts

2nd Jim Black (12) 38pts

3rd Wally Brown (13) 37pts

Div B (16+)

1st Greg Hill (17) 42pts

2nd Stephen Blazsanyik (18) 38pts

3rd Pete Stonebridge (16) 38pts

Wednesday, Nov. 27, Khao Kheow – Stableford

A disappointing turnout of just 10 players here at Khao Kheow today to play the A & B nines from the yellow tees.  The course was in excellent condition, particularly A, but the one or two recovering patches on B hardly interfered with the play.  The greens were fine and very true to putt on.

We got our first two three-balls away on time but Suzi and Jack’s playing partners, John White and Mick Indge, were nowhere to be seen.  Just then the phone went and a little Irish voice piped out, “I tink we missed the turning Jack, we’re in Chonburi”.  Well we waited as long as we could, letting a couple of three-balls go out in front before teeing off as a two-ball, which was a little bit slow.

We didn’t actually see John & Mick until we were on the green of A6, when we looked across to see them teeing off on A3.  So if anyone has a Garmin available I think John might be looking for one.  It reminds me of the time he missed the turning to Treasure Hill earlier in the year – he blamed the fact that they had cut the big tree down!

Wally Brown followed up his third place on Monday with a win here with an excellent 36pts, beating the course specialist Suzi on c/b.

There were no ‘2’s, so after all John’s excursions, it was well worth it as he earned third place with 32 ahead of John O’Keefe with 27.

1st Wally Brown (13) 36pts

2nd Suzi Lawton (28) 36pts

3rd John White (28) 32pts

Wednesday, Nov. 27, Siam Plantation – Stableford

We had a bit of a high season treat at Siam Plantation today, as Jack had a few vouchers which had to be used before the end of this month and they were added to a couple of Steve Mann’s Race2Bkk vouchers, which were kindly donated as prize by Siam Plantation.  Add member Rosco into the equation, who signed in a few guests, and the result was 16 to play this magnificent golf course which is always in pristine condition.

We played the B & C loops and the scoring was not the best but at least we all enjoyed it, even though 4 players preferred to keep their scores a secret.

As there were no ‘2’s, we were able to split into two divisions – Joe Mooneyham won Div B with 31pts from John Lawton on 30 who beat Tim Knight on c/b.  Div A was won by Steve Poznanski with the day’s best score of 33pts, from Mark Rossiter (31) and Kevin Waycott (30).

Div A (0-13)

1st Steve Poznanski (11) 33pts

2nd Mark Rossiter (13) 31pts

3rd Kev Waycott (8) 30pts

Div B (14+)

1st Joe Mooneyham (14) 31pts

2nd John Lawton (20) 30pts

3rd Tim Knight (24) 30pts

Friday, Nov. 29, Green Valley – Stableford

Friday was a perfect day for golf… especially if you like to play in windy conditions!  The unusually strong wind kept the temperature down as well as the scores.

As is usual nowadays, the Green Valley course was in very good condition and 31 players took to the greens but judging by the scoring, the low handicappers seemed to find the conditions harder than the “B grade” players.

It was a welcome back to Jon Kittilsen who posted the day’s best score of 37 points to win Div B from John Lawton, who has been seen experimenting with a new swing but we are reliably advised that his level par 36 contained many flukes and lucky bounces.  Bob Lindborg took third on 35, ahead of three tied on 34 as Jim Bryan got the better of John O’Keefe and Tim Knight on c/b.

The best score posted by the lower handicappers was incredibly just 31pts, which was recorded by big Steve Poznanski, picking up his second win of the week.  He beat John Cunningham on c/b while the minor places went to Angus Neilson (30), who won on Monday, beating Jim Black on c/b, who was second in the same comp (as Angus).  The last place went to a surprised Paul Greenaway, who beat two other players on c/b, all on 29pts.

There were five ‘2’s from Bob St. Aubin (4th), John Cunningham & Bob St. Aubin again (9th) and Dennis Pelly & John O’Keefe on the 12th.

Div A (0-14)

1st Steve Poznanski (11) 31pts

2nd John Cunningham (6) 31pts

3rd Angus Neilson (8) 30pts

4th Jim Black (12) 30pts

5th Paul Greenaway (8) 29pts

Div B (15+)

1st Jon Kittilsen (22) 37pts

2nd John Lawton (20) 36pts

3rd Bob Lindborg (21) 35pts

4th Jim Bryan (16) 34pts

5th John O’Keefe (17) 34pts
