PSC Bunker Boys @ The Bowling Green

Monday, March 5, Bangpakong – Stableford

We had a good turnout of 22 golfers today for one of our rare visits to the always enjoyable Bangpakong course.  Every time we play this course someone seems to turn in a remarkable score and there was no question who was the star today, as Geoff Cox followed up a modest front nine (16 points), with a stunning back nine, carding 4 birdies, for 27 points and a gross back nine score of 35 to run away with the A flight.

Newcomer Frank Sharkey took the honours in the B flight, ahead of Reg Smart, who was making a return after a couple of week’s absence due to illness – welcome back Reg, and we’re now waiting for your mate Peter to recover as well.

John Hughes. John Hughes.

It was also Mike Corner’s last game before returning to the “chippy” in the U.K., so a special thanks to him for all the help he’s provided over the past few months.

Wednesday, March 7, Plutuluang W & N – Stableford

We always try to play one of the cheaper courses on public holidays, so today we paid a return visit to the Navy course.  Only 10 die-hard golfers turned up, the remainder preferring to avoid the anticipated chaos of an overcrowded course, delays and associated problems.  In the event, we weren’t surprised to find that there was a shortage of caddies, and a delayed tee off, but the hard-core golfers eventually had a good although slow day.

The course was in surprisingly good shape with the greens looking good, but as usual very slow.  Ex-champion John Hughes backed up his claim that he’ll win this month’s Golfer of the Month title by winning on the day, ahead of arch rival Colin Greig.  Gez Williams had a great day on the par 3’s taking three prizes, and also taking 3rd place in the competition, beating Gordon Melia on a count back.

1st John Hughes (17) 35pts

2nd Colin Greig (9) 34pts

3rd Gez Williams (19) 33pts

4th Gordon Melia (17) 33pts

Near Pins:  Gez Williams (3) and Ken F.

Friday, March 9,The Emerald – Stableford

Back to the regular number of 22 golfers today for our visit to the always popular Emerald course.  The day started off very warm, with some of the less acclimatized members struggling on the front nine, but the breeze picked up on the back nine to everyone’s relief.

It’s still early days, but John Hughes continued his push for the Golfer of the Month title, beating newcomer Roger Mitchell on a count back after both scored 37 points.  John’s now only 3 points behind last month’s winner Colin Greig, but with Colin facing an impending cut in his handicap, it could be a tight contest.

A Flight

1st Alan Freeman (3) 36pts

2nd Colin Greig (9) 33pts

3rd Paul Smith (3) 33pts

B Flight

1st John Hughes (17) 37pts

2nd Roger Mitchell (20) 37pts

3rd Steve K (20) 36pts

Near Pins:  Alan Freeman, Lee Butler, Mashi Kaneta and Tore Eliason.
