Friday, April 1, Greenwood C & A – Stableford
Despite it being April Fool’s Day there were 18 of us ready to take the slow (coming back anyway) trip up 331 to the wonderful, value for money golf course, Greenwood. It took us 65 minutes to get there and when we arrived it was surprisingly quiet – maybe the longer journey puts some people off but really it shouldn’t.
Our first group got away right on time at 10.05am, urged on by the impatient “Psycho” Boysen and they proceeded at a fairly good pace with no-one in front of them. The course was in fine shape with just a few damp patches and the greens were excellent, so with the weather being just about perfect some good scoring was anticipated – apart from one golfer it was not so. The pace was very good and most groups were able to complete their rounds in around three hours & forty five minutes.

We had two Flights – A Flight for handicaps of 0 to 16 playing off the white tees and B Flight for players with handicaps of 17 & over playing from the yellow tees with two places in each flight. There were also rewards for nearest the pin on two of the par threes and longest first putts on the A9 and C9 greens.
Apart from two players no-one played to their handicap or better so in A Flight it was Peter Hynard’s 45 points that stole the show, with Marco Beer finishing second on 39. In the B Flight it was Colin “Donkey” Davis who was the winner with 35 points from your writer, Peter “Blacky” Blackburn in second spot after scoring 33.
