Travellers Rest Golf Group

Monday, Jan. 20, Treasure Hill – Stableford

On Monday the TRGG headed off to Treasure Hill and for Brendon McEvoy it was not only the perfect weather that got his week up and running, it was the 39pts he collected on a very tricky golf course to storm away from the rest of the field and easily win the day’s competition.  Neil Bramley and Derek Thorogood fought it out for second and third, with Neil winning on count back.

1st Brendon McEvoy (17) 39pts

2nd Neil Bramley (10) 36pts

3rd Derek Thorogood (16) 36pts

Tuesday, Jan. 21, Green Valley – Stableford

On Tuesday Green Valley provided the venue and increased numbers meant two divisions were necessary.

For the second day running it was the Irish contingent who found the conditions to their liking and in Division 1 Liam Keegan walked away with top prize, closely followed by those two other steady stalwarts, Mike Rushant and Barry Wood.

Kehn Brehm.Kehn Brehm.

In Division 2 Peter Cahill did the business and beat off challenges from Ken Brehm and David Callick.

Div.1 (0-15)

1st Liam Keegan (15) 36pts

2nd Mike Rushant (11) 35pts

3rd Barry Wood (12) 34pts

Div.2 (16+)

1st Peter Cahill (19) 34pts

2nd Ken Brehm (19) 32pts

3rd David Callick (18) 32pts

Thursday, Jan. 23, The Emerald – Stableford

Thursday and it was off to the favourite course for many of our golfers, Emerald, and just when you might think the Irish guys would be feeling right at home it was the Americans/Canadians who won the day.

In Division 1, Alan Thomas, a guy I really enjoy watching who makes the game of golf look so easy, came to the fore and defeated another of his countrymen Larry Simpson, but only on count back.  Scotsman Jim Cooper took third spot.

In Division 2 it was my old adversary Ken Brehm, another from across the pond, who rattled up the biggest score of the week of 40pts and a cut of two shots to his handicap.  Next time I do battle with him I may now have more of a chance.  Yet another American, John Baxter, was second and antipodean Derek Thorogood was third.

Div.1 (0-14)

1st Alan Thomas (5) 34pts

2nd Larry Simpson (10) 34pts

3rd Jim Cooper (13) 32pts

Div.2 (15+)

1st Ken Brehm (19) 40pts

2nd John Baxter (15) 36pts

3rd Derek Thorogood (16) 34pts

Saturday, Jan. 25, Eastern Star – Stableford

On Saturday it was back to Eastern Star and the Irish contingent finished off the week the same way they started it, on top.  This time it was an Irish lady who showed it wasn’t only the men-folk who could win a golf competition.  Joan Murphy got her penny whistle out and led all the guys home, well done Joan.

1st Joan Murphy (20) 35pts

2nd Liam Keegan (15) 34pts

3rd Rod Ewan (14) 33pts

Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG, please phone Fergus Brennan on 086 056 7019 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
