PSC Golf at The Golf Club

Monday, Oct. 19, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Andy Makara (27) 37pts

2nd Kevin Hamilton (15) 34pts

3rd John Hutt (23) 33pts

The verdict on Green Valley is that things are getting better by the week but still some ways to go before the perfection of the past.  We had 16 golfers out today and it was an enjoyable day of golf.  We even dodged a bullet with the rain!

The Laem Chabang Gang.

I don’t know what John Hutt has been having for breakfast, but I want some.  The purple patch continues and his 33 got him on the first step of the podium.  Green Valley stalwart Kev Hamilton has always done well here and 34 points today got him second place.  Hope that blue Antigua Monthly Medal shirt gave you a bit of luck mate!

Andy Makara plays with us just about every week he is in town.  He has won here several times before and knows the course well, being a member.  Today was no exception, and being the only golfer today to beat his handicap Andy took the gold.

Tuesday, Oct. 20, Laem Chabang (white tees) – Stableford

1st Mark Wood (8) 34pts

2nd Walter Baechli (16) 32pts

T3rd Gary Smedley (20) 31pts

T3rd Phil Smedley (11) 31pts

Today it was back to the ‘Jack Track’ of Laem Chabang for the last Sports Day of 2015.  The C & A courses were the assignment and it was a full field of 20 golfers that gathered on that first tee.  It is always tough starting on the C, especially with that 2nd hole par-5 that criss-crosses over the creek, but today was the day I finally got a par there!  Let’s not bother with the details of the rest of my round, and on to the scores of some good golfers.

Dale Shier, John Hutt & Dave Ferris.

The dynamic duo of the Smedley brothers garnered a joint third spot on the podium as Phil and Gary both netted a 31 on the card.  Gary has set off back to Oz by the time you read this and Phil will now have to pay for his own haircuts.

The multi-coloured and multi-cultural Northshore resident Walter Baechli took sole second with 32 for today’s efforts.  Walter is one of those Pattaya characters we always look forward to playing with as he always has a smile on his face.

The biggest smile of the day came from Mark Wood who shot a steady round of 34 stableford points.  The Scotsman did little wrong out on the course and I don’t recall he even had one blob on the card.  Not everybody needs to get to horizontal!

Thursday, Oct. 22, Khao Kheow A & C (white tees) – Stableford

1st John Hutt (22) 40pts

2nd Per Forsberg (15) 38pts

T3rd Dale Shier (10) 37pts

T3rd Dave Ferris (21) 37pts

5th Sonny Goldsbury (16) 35pts

Pattaya’s only Pete Dye designed course was on the agenda for today and it is a golf venue that everybody in town respects.  Condition of the course was pretty darn good, given the fact that the week was full of pounding rain nearly every day.

We played the A & C tracks again as the B course is still closed.  Personally I do not care which of the three nine’s we play as they are all great layouts and all very enjoyable.

This is not an easy course to score on and the fact that our 5th place golfer, Sonny Goldsbury, shot a 35 tells how good the boys were playing here today.  Dave and Dale shared third place with very nice pair of 37’s on the card.  Visiting Per Forsberg had a great 38 for second but still 2 shots back of Englishman John Hutt.  John is definitely having a good run with a good result at the T.Q. Masters and now a whopping 40 pointer today!  Take it while you can get it mate, golf is a cruel mistress!
