1st Freddy Starbeck (14) net 68
2nd Dave Driscoll (15) net 69
3rd Clinton Hazlett (8) net 70
B Flight
1st Don Lehmer (20) net 70
2nd Pierre Bietry (16) net 71
3rd Eddy Beilby (19) net 71
Near Pins: No 4 Dave Driscoll, No 9 Mark Robinson, No 12 Jez Lees, No 16 Vic Hester
It seems he receives a compliment every week for his ever improving play, and there is no reason that should not continue as Freddy ‘Star-struck’ put the lead crystal glass, emblematic of Lewiinski’s monthly medal, on his shelf. As all our readers will know, Freddy also gets his name etched on the Lewiinski’s wall of shame and an invitation to the year-end Gold Medal.
Christian Boysen.
Freddy took out this month’s medal by clearing his A Flight mates Dave Driscoll (net 69) and the pair of Clinton Hazlett and ‘Broad more’ Bob Newell both locked on 70’s; Bob’s no-score on the 18th hole proving fatal to him in the resulting count back.
B Flight was led home by Don ‘the ladies man’ Lehmer with a impressive net 70. Don was followed up the podium steps by two fine players, Pierre Bietry and Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Beilby. Pierre prevailed in the count back as he had the better mathematics on inward nine.
John Bhang, Vic Hester and Chris Davison shared the 2’s pot.
Tuesday, Sept. 10, Laem Chabang A & B – Stableford
A Flight
1st JJ Harney (13) 38pts
2nd John Pierrel (11) 38pts
B Flight
1st Christian Boysen (27) 40pts
2nd Freddy Starbeck (14) 40pts
The already courageous lot that turn up whenever the impeccable Laem Chabang is on offer were further emboldened when presented with the easiest of permutations of the nines, Mountain A and Lake B. Notwithstanding their zeal, the course showed its teeth to all save the society’s two Vikings in B Flight and the two podium winners of A.
Sunday winners Freddy Starbeck and Don Lehmer with Lewiinski’s golf manager Colin Davis (left).
Christian Boysen and Freddy Starbeck shared the men of the match honors and the B Flight top spots with 40 sparkling points each; the count back falling in Christians favor. Christian has now amassed 92 points in 2 of his last 3 outings with the society, as Freddy with Sunday’s monthly medal under his belt made it two on the trot.
A Flight not to be outdone had its own count back drama with JJ Harney and podium regular John Pierrel locked on 38 point returns. JJ maths added up the better and he also shared the 2’s pot with Hans Stoffell.
Wednesday, Sept. 11, St. Andrews – Stableford
A Flight
1st Kevin Rogers (11) 39pts
2nd Bill Winslow (4) 35pts
3rd Hans Stoffal (12) 35pts
B Flight
1st Jean LaRouche (16) 38pts
2nd Freddy Starbeck (14) 37pts
3rd Nick Shaw (16) 36pts
C Flight
1st Jimmy Day (18) 40 pts
2nd Christian Boysen (27) 37pts
3rd Marlene Prudden (23) 35pts
It has its detractors, but St Andrews provides a marvelous test and enhances the golf diversity of the Eastern Seaboard. The society doesn’t play it often, perhaps not often enough, but a fine field was willing to take on the challenge.
A three flight field was led by C Flight Co. Wicklow man Jimmy ‘good’ Day who had a fine 40 points that earned Jimmy the man of the match. Half of the title guys took the silver as Denmark’s Christian Boysen came in three shots back and Australian belle Marlene Prudden rounded out the flight.
In the senior flight it was Aussie Kevin Rogers sitting atop the podium with a very creditable 39 points. Kevin was four clear of the trio of Bill Winslow and Hans Stoffal, who took the silver and bronze in that order, and pay window regular John Pierrel, who was surprisingly left out in the cold.
The top spot in B Flight went to Canadian Jean LaRouche with 38 points. Freddy ‘Star struck’ completed the Danish Viking double act as his 37 points filled the silver spot. Nick ‘Elvis’ Shaw and Tore Eliassen were locked on even par rounds but it was Nick who hit the right notes as Tore joined John in the cold.
Brian Prudden split a healthy 2’s pot with Bob Newell.
Friday, Sept. 11, Crystal Bay B & C – Stableford
1st Christian Boysen (27) 42pts
2nd Freddy Starbeck (17) 37pts
3rd John Stewart (8) 36pts
The Danish sandbagger twins Christian Boysen and Freddy ‘Star struck’ were at it again on the B & C nines of Crystal Bay as they were the only two players to better their handicaps on the day (only kidding about the sandbagger twins). Christian’s 42 point walloping was 5 clear of pal Freddy’s score and Christian has now had two wins and a second place finish this week,
The bad luck story of the day was John Stewart’s solid even par round that was good only for the bronze.
Les Cobban scooped the 2’s pot.
