Golf for all at the Outback Golf Bar

Monday, Sept. 28, Burapha A & B – Stableford

A big thunder storm came rolling in just as our group was putting out on the 1st hole on the B course on Monday, and together with the rest of the Outbackers ahead of us, we all sought shelter at the drinks hut.  Freddy Starbeck’s caddy must have timed it perfectly, as she managed to drive under a tree branch right as it came crashing down on the buggy in the storm, covering Freddy Starbeck in red ants.  It proved to be enough to slow Freddy’s scoring down quite a bit for the remainder of his round!

On, who is Brad Jordison’s lovely playing partner and also a caddy from Laem Chabang, demonstrated her beautiful swing that is getting better and better.  Today she scored a 37-pointer to beat Jimmy Little on count back for third place while in second, with his first game since his return from the US, was Ed Turner on 38 points.  Ed is definitely a man I admire, still walking a course (where permitted) at his age of almost 80 years.  However, this day’s laurels went to Monday regular Ivan Plunkett, coming in with a fine 39 points in these wet and damp conditions.  Well done Ivan!

1st Ivan Plunkett (26) 39pts

2nd Ed Turner (22) 38pts

3rd Ianthira Phisetrit (17) 37pts

Wednesday, Sept. 30, Bangpra – Stableford

Today was a cloudy, cool and almost rain free day – perfect weather for golf.  The greens at Bangpra were tough again (as they always are here), with a couple of pin positions in real awkward places.

It’s not often that we have ‘2’s at Bangpra but with the white tees more forward than usual, Brad Jordison almost aced hole number 2, and with the other pin positions being in tough spots he was confident that he would walk away with the ‘2’s money.  However, Andre other ideas and managed to get a birdie on hole 17, spoiling Brad’s party so to speak.

Ed Turner, playing his second game since returning back to Thailand, came good again with 34 points, but Steve Mann managed to just pip him on a count back for third.  Geoff Stimpson continued his good form with 36 points for second place, but the big surprise (especially to himself) was Andre finishing first with 38.

1st Andre Coetzee (11) 38pts

2 Geoff Stimpson (09) 36pts

3 Stephen Mann (13) 34pts

4 Ed Turner (22) 34pts

Friday, Oct. 2, St. Andrews – Stableford

Green Valley had a competition on today which meant we had to postpone our monthly medal again, but with St. Andrews liked by many (and passionately hated by a few others) we nonetheless had a good turnout today with 35 players turning up.

The course was in good condition although the greens could have been cut as they were a bit slow.  As can be seen from the scores, the course played easier than usual and a couple of players elected to play from the yellow tees.

We only had one hole where the weather decided to change on us so we got a little bit wet, but luckily the rain did not last and we could proceed without any stoppage.

Kim Danboise showed some good form to win Division 1 with a fabulous 40 points, playing off a 13 handicap.  The big winner of the day however was Kevin Hamilton who continued his blistering form and will most likely be a single figure handicapper in the not so distant future.
