Jomtien Golf with the IPGC

Monday, June 13 Rayong C. Club Stableford

Our first visit here for some considerable time owing to the green fee, caddy and buggie package we have been offered at Jomtien Golf and the I.P.G.C. and the general census after the round, we would come back soon for another round here.

Only one division out today and Jerry Sweetnam wins it with 37 points. Bruce Gardner is second beating Chris Voller 14/12 on a back six countback after they both score 19 points on the back nine with 34 points overall.

Nearest the pins today only on two holes for each division. Chris Voller in division 1 and no winners in division 2. In the two’s Chris Voller and Ton Yahnke both birdie the 12th in division 1 to split the pot with two rollovers and in division 2 another rollover to Crystal Bay on Wednesday. The tees here today were in terrible condition which we reported to the management and the greens very slow but it is a brilliant layout and good value for money.

Wednesday, June 15 Crystal Bay Stableford

The A course is still under renovation here so we are playing C and B nines today with yet again only one division out. Aussie boy Bruce Gardner takes a podium position winning with 37 points, Chris Voller is second on 33 and a warm welcome return to Terry Madsen who comes in third with 32 points.

There is nobody on the green in division 1 today for nearest the pins but in division 2 Bruce Gardner on C4 and Ger Lodge on B6 are the winners. There are no two’s in either division so rollovers to the Emerald next Monday.

The front nine greens here on the C course were very slow and bumpy but the back nine were a lot faster and more true. But there were no complaints.

Friday, June 17 Eastern Star Stableford

Heavy rain overnight here in Jomtien and the forecast for the Baan Chang coastline today is unpredictable. On the way to the course the skyline is still a 50/50 prediction but as we pull into course it looks promising.

There are two divisions out today with the equal cut at 7 – 16.9 and 17.1 + with 10 players in each division. Willy Van Heetvelde returns the best score of the day winning division 2 with 34 points. In his last game with us Bruce Gardner is second on 31, and now fighting fit and back to golf Don Head is third with 28 points.

Bill Bertram wins division 1 with 33, with the two arch rivals fighting for second and third position – Mikael Andersson beats the South African boy Jerry Sweetnam 16/13 on the back nine after they both come in with 31 points. There were cheers all round.

Nearest the pins: Div 1 Mikael Andersson, Bill Bertram and Chris Voller. Div 2 Bruce Gardner and Tony Thorne.

In the two’s Mikael Andersson birdied the 3rd in division 1 and a rollover in division 2 to next Friday here.

As the last group came off the eighteenth green the heavens opened and this lasts for forty minutes. Looking from the clubhouse the ninth fairway was totally flooded after 10 minutes which was really needed.
