3rd JP Maffray (1) 37pts
B Flight

3rd Eddy Beilby (17) 34pts
Near Pins: No 4 Barry Copestake, No 9 Jum Karagit, No 12 Kevin Rogers, No 16 Don Lehmer
The premier flight showed why they are called that this Sunday as big hitting Dave Driscoll fashioned a best on the day 40 points that won him the man of the match honours. His total, however was just a stroke clear of Aussie ace Kevin Rogers. JP Maffray showed he might be on the way up as his creditable 37 points closed the flight. Bob ‘Broadmore’ Newell took the non profitable fourth slot for the second time in the last two Sunday outings.
Nick Odnoral.
The junior flight was led in by every ones favourite Aussie star Nick Odnoral with a steady even par round. Nick was one shot clear of Jim Ferdee as Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Beilby had to go to a count back to secure the bronze over the unlucky Irishman John Heaney.
JP Maffray, Pat Regan, Barry Copestake and Paul Gillam shared the 2’s pot.
Tuesday, Sept. 17, Greenwood C&A – Stableford
A Flight
1st Nick Shaw (17) 41pts
2nd John Stewart (8) 39pts
3rd Mike Jeffreys (17) 38pts
B Flight
1st Jim Reid (24) 46pts
2nd Tom Gorey (18) 43pts
3rd Mick Coughlan (21) 39pts
Jim Reid had one of those days you remember for a long time as he went 10 under his handicap – an event calculated to happen 1 in every 1,138 rounds. Jim does not have 1,138 rounds on record with the society but it is certainly in excess of 250, and that made it easy for the lads to tip their hat to co-title mates Tom Gorey with a splendid 43 points and A Flight’s top man Nick Shaw’s 41pts. These lads stopped our red hot society Vikings in their tracks.
Following Jim and Tom up the B Flight podium steps was Mick Coughlan with a excellent 39 points.
John Stewart took the silver in the senior flight as Mike ‘the Welsh wizard’ Jeffreys rounded out the flight with a very useful 38 points.
John Stewart and Eddy Beilby split the 2’s pot.
Wednesday, Sept. 18, Bangpra – Stableford
A Flight
1st Pierre Bietry (16) 34pts
2nd Terry Mangan (14) 32pts
3rd John Stewart (8) 32pts
B Flight
1st Jorn Finnerup (29) 34pts
2nd Nick Shaw (17) 34pts
3rd Jimmy Day (17) 33pts
A good sized field set out for Bangpra in eager anticipation of playing a good round of golf as things turned out it proved a very difficult task as the course bared it teeth and the scores suffered accordingly.
Pierre Bietry returned 34 points that gave him top spot in A Flight and a co-man of the match honors. Co. Wicklow’s favourite son Terry ‘Pork chop’ Mangan and pay window regular John Stewart were locked in mortal count back on 32 points, with Terry giving John a red card and gaining the silver.
In B Flight it had been apparent that Ireland’s Jorn Finnerup was rounding into good form and that trend continued this day as his co-man of the match would attest, but Jorn still needed a count back verdict over his flight mate and co-man of the match Nick ‘Elvis’ Shaw. Jorn and Nick were one clear of the tandem of Co. Wicklow man Jimmy ‘good’ Day and Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Beilby.
The hard luck story was surely that ‘the Eagle’ deserved more for his hard earned 33 points and seemed he did not quite know what had happened, but as always he remained joyful.
‘The Donkey’ had no reason to hand out prizes for a ‘2’ so it was a rollover to the following week.
